3. Window No. 4

A. The construction of window No. 4 consists of a glass pane laminated to each side of a polyvinyl butyral (vinyl) interlayer, or core, with an additional vinyl layer laminated to the inboard surface of the inner pane. A cast acrylic sheet is laminated to the additional vinyl layer (Fig. 1). These additional layers prevent glass from scattering throughout the cabin in the event of bird impact. The additional layers are of no structural importance. A thin parting medium is laminated around the window edges between the vinyl interlayers and each glass pane to prevent edge chipping of the glass under conditions of differential expansion and contraction. Triplex windows have a soft vinyl layer around the edge of the window between the outer glass pane and the outer vinyl layer and between the inner glass pane and the outer vinyl pane, instead of the parting medium.
B. A conductive film, applied on the outer face of the inner glass pane permits electrical heating for anti-icing and defogging. Bus bars molded into the upper and lower edges of the windows in contact with the conductive film are connected to electrical terminals. For further information concerning window anti-icing and defogging refer to Chapter 30, Control Cabin Window Anti-Icing System.
4. Window No. 5

A. The construction of window No. 5 consists of a glass pane laminated to each side of a polyvinyl butyral (vinyl) interlayer or core (Fig. 1). On PPG windows, a thin strip of parting medium is laminated around the window edges between the vinyl interlayer and each glass pane to prevent edge chipping of the glass under conditions of differential expansion and contraction. Triplex windows, have thin layers of soft vinyl between the glass and vinyl structural layers as well as slip planes (parting medium) included in the vinyl core layer around the edge of the window.
B. A conductive film, applied on the outer face of the inner glass pane permits electrical heating for anti-icing and defogging. Bus bars molded into the upper and lower edges of the windows in contact with the conductive film are connected to electrical terminals. 5. Fixed Window Seals and Sealants

A. General (Fig. 2)

The fixed control cabin windows number 1, 3, 4, and 5 are sealed on installation by a beaded silicone rubber molded-in-place pressure seal which is molded to the window mounting surface.

PPG and Sierracin No. 1 windows have a stainless steel Z-channel strip mounted between a rubber cushion and the beaded pressure seal around the periphery of the outer glass pane. PPG No. 1 windows have a silicone bumper strip around the periphery of the outer glass pane covered by a PR 1422 sealant cushion and then the Z-channel. On Sierracin No. 1 windows the cushion is PR 1422 sealant. Triplex No. 1 windows have a PR 1425 rubber bumper strip around the periphery of outer glass pane.
