CAUTION: DO NOT PRESSURIZE THE AIRPLANE IF A MIDDLE WINDOW PANE HAS

CRACKS OR CRAZING. THE PRESSURE CAN BREAK THE WINDOW.
CAUTION: APPLICATION OF PAINT OR OTHER UNAPPROVED OR NON-TRANSPARENT
_______ MATERIAL TO THE ACRYLIC PASSENGER WINDOW PANES PANES IS PROHIBITED. SOLVENT IN PAINT WILL CAUSE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE ACRYLIC AND THE PAINT WILL PREVENT DAMAGE DETECTION.
(1) Examine the windows panes for cracks and crazing (Fig. 601 - 604):
(a) Replace the middle window pane if it has cracks or crazing (AMM 56-21-00/401).
NOTE: Middle pane cracks that start from the vent hole and are
____ 0.062 inch or less in length do not need to be replaced.
You can repair the middle window pane if the minimum thickness is 0.157 inch after you repair the pane (Ref Manufacturer's Overhaul Manual).
(b) Replace the outer window pane if the depth of a crack or crazing is 0.05 inch or more (Ref 56-21-00/401).
NOTE: You can use an optical micrometer to measure the depth
____ of a crack. To get the correct dimension, multiply the micrometer indication by 1.49 (the acrylic plastic index of refraction).
If you do not have an optical micrometer, use an accurate procedure to measure the depth of the crack.

(c) Replace the outer window pane that has a crack if the thickness after the repair will be less than 0.265 inch (Ref 56-21-00/401).
NOTE: You can repair the outer window pane if the minimum
____ thickness is 0.265 inch after you repair the pane (Ref Manufacturer's Overhaul Manual).
Cracks can start from scratches or crazing (Fig. 603 and 604).
(d) Replace the outer window pane if the depth of a crack or crazing is more than 0.030 inch on the bevel edge (Ref 56-21-00/401) (Fig. 604).
NOTE: The depth of the crack or crazing must be less than
____ 0.030 inch if the window thickness is 0.265 inch. The maximum width of the bevel edge is 0.550 inch.

(2) Examine the window for erosion.
NOTE:____The forward edge of the window can have erosion or chips. If the window looks bad, you can repair the window (Ref 56-21-00/801).
