Make an inspection of the chips. Make sure the chips do not have cracks around them.

Repair the chips in the window bolt holes, and the large chips in the window surface. Refer to the Component Maintenance Manual for the repair of the window.

Rub with an abrasive paper to remove the clamshell chips or erosion at the window edges. Polish to a 62 RHS finish. Refer to the damage limits after the repair is completed (Ref 56-11-21/601).

WINDOWS NO. 4 AND NO. 5 - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task removes the number 4 and 5 windows. The second task installs the number 4 and 5 windows.
B. When you install windows No.4 and No.5, use a pressure seal. A pressure seal is silicone rubber that has a bead. The pressure seal is molded-in-place (Fig. 401). A continuous bead molded in the rubber seal makes sure there is a good pressure seal around the window.
C. There is fairing compound applied to the window frame. This makes sure there is a good flat surface for the window pane to touch. The thickness of the compound is different in different locations. At high locations on the window frame, there is no compound.
D. Also shown on the Fig. 401 are some items which are not components of the pressure seal. The items that are not part of the pressure seal are these:

Aerodynamic smoother

O-rings.
E. The aerodynamic smoother is installed in the area between the window frame and the edge of the pressure seal and window pane. It gives aerodynamic flushness and keeps water out of the window installation. A nylon cord or a nylon thread is installed below the aerodynamic smoother to make the removal of the smoother easier.
F. O-rings are made of ethylene propylene. They are installed below the nut washers. The O-rings can compress a set quantity to transmit the sufficient compression load into the window. This will cause the bead to compress and make a weather seal.
G. The replacement windows come with necessary parts for the installation. There is a protective plastic layer on the two sides of the panes.
H. The beaded silicone rubber molded-in-place pressure seal will be known as pressure seal.
