 C.  Examine the No. 1 window.
 S 216-020-B00
 (1)  Examine and replace the No. 1 window if you see these conditions (AMM 56-11-11/401):
 NOTE: You can find a 0.08 inch diameter 'tong mark' at the higher
____ and lower inboard corners of the window. Tong marks are permitted if they are less than 0.50 inch (maximum) from the edge of the outer glass pane. Tong marks on the window occur during the fabrication of the window.
 (a)  Outer glass pane.
 1)  Cracks, chips, delamination which decrease the visual capacity.
 NOTE: If one or more of the above conditions limit the
____ visual capacity replace the No. 1 window.
 2) Intermittent operation which cause the No. 1 window heat system to not operate. 3) Arcing, electrical discontinuity or cracks rendering main window heating system inoperative.
 NOTE: Refer to limitation section, Boeing 737 Flight
____ Manual for control cabin window heat requirements. Outer pane is not a structural member. No. 1 window replacement due to outer pane damage should be based upon window heat and visibility requirements and can be delayed to the nearest maintenance interval. Window heat leads should be disconnected and secured if replacement is delayed.

 (b)  
Examine the inner glass pane for these conditions: 1) Cracks 2) Scratches with a depth more than 0.015 inch 3) Conchoidal chips, in one of the two surfaces, with a depth

 more than 0.015 inch
 4) V-shaped chips.


 (c)  
Examine the middle vinyl pane for the cracks of any kind.


 NOTE: Polyurethane cracking or Crackling are cracks
____ located within the urethane layer only. These cracks, located one after another, occur around the window edge adjacent to the frame. Crackling can have a slight yellow color in appearance. If crackling is contained in only the urethane interlayer (and not the vinyl core) the window does not need to be replaced. The urethane interlayers are not structural.
 (d)  Examine the No. 1 window for the delaminations:
 NOTE: A delamination is the separation of a glass pane from
____ the adjacent inner layer. A delamination can have an effect on the window heat system.
 A delamination does not change the structural strength of the windshield. Thus, use the delamination limits as an aid for window replacement. The delamination limits can be extended if the visual capacity is satisfactory.
 1)  Isolated delaminations (island delamination) with a diameter of 3/4 inch or more and found more than 2 inches from the nearest edge.
 2)  Continuous edge delaminations which extend more than the distance shown in Fig. 601.
 3)  A delamination that is not clear.
 NOTE: A delamination that is not clear shows that there is
____ moisture between the glass and the vinyl. This can lead to electrical arcing when the window heat system is used, and cause cracking of the outer glass pane of the window.
 a)  An unclear (milky appearance) interlayer condition is structurally acceptable within the two inch (50.8 mm) optical non-critical zone provided that the condition of the interlayer can be determined to be free of cracks. Replace the window at the next scheduled maintenance visit.
