 TOTAL AIR TEMPERATURE PROBE - CLEANING/PAINTING

 1.  General_______
 A.  This subject has one task. The task is to clean the material collected in the total air temperature (TAT) probe. The first procedure in this task is to clean the TAT probe while the probe is installed on the airplane. The second procedure is to clean the TAT probe when the probe is off the airplane.

 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE PROBE HEAT IS NOT ON. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (1)  Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:
 (a)  P18 Load Control Center
 1) C5, TEMP PROBE

 CAUTION:_______REMOVE THE MATERIAL FROM THE AIR INLET CAREFULLY. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SENSING ELEMENT DURING THE CLEANING PROCEDURE.

Blow compressed air into the air exit hole.

 (3)  
Flush the air inlet with water.

Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tag and close this circuit breaker:

 E.  TAT Probe Cleaning (While off Airplane) S 027-016
 (1)  Remove the TAT probe (AMM 34-12-31/401).
 S 177-017 CAUTION: DO NOT USE FLUIDS THAT CONTAIN SODIUM CHLORIDE OR SULFUR
_______ COMPOUNDS TO CLEAN THE PROBE. SODIUM CHLORIDE AND SULFUR CAN CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE PROBE.
 (2)  
Soak the air inlet and strut of the TAT probe with water.

Move the TAT probe back and forth in the water.

 (a) Make sure the air inlet and strut of the TAT probe are clean. S 167-019

Blow compressed air into the air inlet.

Do a test of the TAT probe (AMM 34-12-31/501).

 MACH AIRSPEED WARNING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 A.  The mach airspeed warning system provides an aural warning to alert the flight crew when the airplane exceeds mach airspeed limits. Two mach airspeed warning systems, No. 1 and No. 2 are installed on the airplane. Each system consists of a mach/airspeed indicator installed on each pilot's instrument panel, an aural warning clacker located in the aural warning unit module, and a warning test switch installed on the aft overhead panel P5.
