 PITOT-STATIC SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General_______
 A.  This subject contains two tasks. The first task is to flush the pitot-static system to remove unwanted material from the system. The second task is to drain the pitot-static system to remove unwanted liquid from the system.
 TASK 34-11-01-862-001
 2.  Flush the Pitot-Static System_____________________________
 A.  General
 (1)  You can flush the system and do a leakage tolerance check at the same time, when it is necessary. You do not have to flush the system before each system leakage check. You do not have to flush the system when you replace pitot-static instruments or seal caps.
 B.  Equipment and Materials
 (1)  A dry air pressure source, 0 to 15 psi, with a filter and gage to measure the pressure.
 C.  Prepare to Flush the Pitot Static System
 S 842-002
 (1)  
Disconnect the pitot-static system lines and seal each hose or tube with a cap.

 (2)  
Remove the quick-disconnect hose fittings from the hoses.

 (3)  
Temporarily attach all of the hoses to prevent movement.

 (4)  
In the flight compartment, disconnect these instruments from the pitot-static system:

 (a)  
The cabin altimeter.

 (b)  
The differential pressure indicator.

 (5)  
In the electronic compartment, disconnect these instruments from the pitot-static system:

 (a)  
The air data computers.

 (b)  
The electronic pressure controller.

 

 (6)
Disconnect the pitot and static hoses from the drain fittings.

 (7)  
Disconnect the static system hoses from the alternate static ports.

Remove the four pitot static probes (34-11-11, Pitot Static Probe -Removal/Installation).

 D. Flush the Pitot-Static System
 NOTE: Flush only one location at a time.

 (1)  Use these steps to flush the pitot and static lines:
 (a)  
Remove each cap from each hose or tube.

 (b)  
Flush the hose or tube with dry filtered air for 3 minutes.


 S 842-035
 (2)  Connect the air supply:
 (a)  
Remove the cap from the pitot hose that you disconnected from the top left pitot-static probe.

 (b)  
Connect the dry filtered air supply to the hose.
