TOTAL AIR TEMPERATURE PROBE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This subject has two tasks. The first task is to remove the total air temperature (TAT) probe. The second task is to install the TAT probe. The installation task includes a test of the installation of the TAT probe.
B. The TAT probe (M171) is installed on the lower left side of the forward fuselage at STA 268.

WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE TAT PROBE HEAT IS NOT ON. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a)
P18 Load Control Center
1) A8, COMPUTER-1 AC
2) A9, COMPUTER-1 26V AC
3) C5, TEMP PROBE
(b)
P6 Load Control Center
1) B6, COMPUTER-2 26V AC
2) B7 COMPUTER-2 AC

(2) Remove the total air temperature probe:
(a)
Remove the screws that hold the TAT probe to the airplane.
CAUTION:_______DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH FORCE TO THE PROBE. THIS CAN BREAK THE GASKET SEAL. DO NOT PULL THE PROBE AWAY FROM THE FUSELAGE WITH TOO MUCH FORCE. TOO MUCH FORCE ON THE PROBE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE.
(b)
Pull the TAT probe away from the airplane skin until you see the electrical connector.

(c)
Disconnect the electrical connector from the TAT probe.
(d)
Make sure the electrical connector does not fall into the fuselage.
(e)
Put dust caps on the electrical connections.
(f)
Remove and discard the gasket.

A. Standard Tools and Equipment
(1) Ohmmeter - measures 0.010 ohms with a precision of | 0.001 ohm.
