R (3) Fault isolation BITE
R
R In the event of a protective trip, the fault isolation software
R determines whether the trip is due to external fault trip condition
R or due to faulty sense circuitry within the controller.
R
R The fault isolation software stimulates the sense circuitry
R associated with the trip which has occurred where appropriate. If the
R sense circuitry responds to the stimulus as expected then the fault
R is judged to be external to the controller.
R
R The fault isolation BITE primary function is to identify the failed
R LRU after a protective trip has occurred. The protective trips are
R classified as any fault detected by the controller that will result
R in a Power Ready Relay (PRR) trip. After a failure has been detected
R and indicated by the protective latch as being true, the
R corresponding isolation routine will be executed.
R Note that after a protective trip has been isolated (isolation
R routine is completed and the fault determined) no further isolation
R is executed until the protection latch has been cleared (i.e. the
R External Power Switch (EPS) is cycled or a cold start is executed).
R (4) Maintenance BITE
R
R The maintenance BITE is initiated upon request from the CFDIU.
R (a) Stage 1 - Starting maintenance BITE
R
R All the following conditions must be present for a GAPCU
R maintenance BITE procedure to begin:
R - a test (maintenance BITE request) signal has been received from
R the CFDIU (via the ARINC 429 receiver),
R - a flight phase 1 or 10 signal is being received from the CFDIU,
R - a null failure monitoring and storage command is being received
R from the CFDIU,
R - "The aircraft is on the ground" discrete input is present,
R - Isolation BITE is not in progress.
R
R If all the conditions are met, the message TEST IN PROGRESS is
R generated to the CFDIU and the maintenance BITE procedure
R continues with stage 2.
R
R NOTE : The GAPCU returns to the normal mode:____
R - if any of the conditions is not met or,
R - if the GAPCU receives a log off command from the CFDIU
R or,
R - a return command is pushed at menu level of the CFDIU
R or,
R - for any protocol problem with the CFDIU.
R (b) Stage 2 - GAPCU control of GCU maintenance BITE
R
R The GAPCU initiates a maintenance BITE sequence in each of the
R GCUs by sending a maintenance BITE request signal to each GCU via
R its MIL-STD-1553-B communication link.
R Once initiated, each GCU is in control of its own maintenance
R BITE sequence (on ground and engine not running). At the end of
R the maintenance BITE sequence (if done), each GCU leaves the
R maintenance BITE and stores the messages or fault codes for
R interrogation by the GAPCU.
R (c) Stage 3 - GAPCU maintenance BITE sequence
R
R The maintenance BITE sequence terminates by the completion of all
R the procedures. All fault codes generated during the GAPCU
R maintenance BITE sequence are stored in the GAPCU memory.
R NOTE : If all the maintenance BITE tests are completed and no____
R fault codes are generated by any of the units, a TEST OK
R message is generated to the CFDIU.
R (d) Stage 4 - Message conversion and storage
R
R - All the messages are transmitted to the CFDIU.
