(a.) Applythe sealant0.125to 0.187inchthickto repairareawith spatulaor a paddle shapedtool. Firmlypresssealantin placeandform intodesiredshape.Lap new sealantoverold existingsealant0.125to 0.25inch.
(b.) Allowsealantto cureuntil stiff. Thissealantcuresto an acceptablehardnessin approximately16 hoursat 75°Fand 50% relativehumidity.Cureis hastenedwhenapplyingheat upto 130°F.
NOTE: Nacellefueltankscanbe filledwith fuelone hourafterapplicationof sealant. Thecure doesnotdependon exposureto airor elevatedtemperatures,and will sealevenwhencombinedwithfuel,withoutaffectingsealingefficiency.
(c.) After allsealanthasdried, proceedasfollows: 1 Plugall tankopeningswith temporarycapsand gaskets. 2 Installa modifiedfillercap,(shownin 91-00-00),whichacceptsan air hose
fitting. 3 Apply2 psi (55 inchesof water)closedcircuitair pressureintotank. 4 Allowpressureto stabilize(normallythe airpressurewill drop slightly). When
pressurestabilizes,returntank pressureto 2 psi (55inchesof water)andhold thispressurefor 5 minutes. Therewill be nodecreaseof pressureduringthis time,as indicatedbythe manometer.
5 Nothinglessthan a perfectsealis acceptable. 6 Checkall externalseamsandrivetsfor leaks. Usea non-corrosiveleak detectingsolution.
(b) FuselageSealing
Specialsealingcompoundsareusedto sealsectionsof the aircraftagainstleakageof pressurizedair. Thissealingis doneduringconstruction.Anyair leakagethroughoutthe pressurizedfuselagecannormallybe detectedwhilecarryingoutthe fuselagepressurecheck
in 21-30-00.

WARNING: WHENUSINGTHESECLEANINGSOLVENTSIN A CLOSEDAREA, FORCEDVENTILATIONMUSTBE USEDTO PROTECTPERSONNEL FROMTOXICFUMES.
All partsto be sealedmustbe thoroughlycleaned.Methylethylketone(MEK)or aliphatic naphthaare recommendedcleaningagents.
NOTE:  Aliphaticnaphthais preferablesinceit doesnot damagepaintedsurfacesor acrylicplastic(plexiglas)windows.
(a.) All parts,sub-assemblies,and assembliesto be sealedmustbe alodinedandprimed withzinc chromate,exceptpressurizedair ductwork,airboxes,etc,whichare alodinedonly.
(b.)  Removeallfilings,chips,loosedirt,and otherforeignobjectson surfacesto be sealedbyforced air,or vacuumcleaningandbrush.
(c.) Cleanall surfacesor voidsto be sealed,to removeall fingerprints,oil, orgrease. To clean,wipe affectedareaswith naphtha;usea clean,cottoncloth. Toprevent redispositionof contaminantsonsurface,the cleanedsurfacesshouldbewipeddry immediatelyand not allowedto air dry.
(d.) It is essentialthat onlycleanclothsbeusedforcleaning. Whena clothbecomes soiled,it mustbecleanedor discarded.Toavoidcontaminationof cleaningsolvent,it mustbe pouredonthe cloth. Repeatcleaningproceduresaboveuntilno contaminatesarelefton surfacesto be sealed.
