11.Assemblyof Nose Gear Oleo (refer to 32-20-00 Figure 402) (continued)
(f)
At the top of the cylinder, tighten the orifice tube bolt.

(g)
Install the upper and lower torque links.


(h)Checkthe upper and lower oleo housing bushings are installed and lubricate the bearing surfaces lightly with Molykote No. 33. Install the cylinder into the oleo housing and securewith retainer ring.
(i) At the top of the oleo housing, installthe aligner guide bracket and steering armon the cylinder. Tighten cap bolts to 30 -35 inch-pounds and safety with MS20995C41
wire.

(j) Install the shimmy dampener. Rig shimmy dampeneras follows:
(1.) Rotate the nose gear to full right tow limit and retain.
(2.) Extend shimmy dampener to its full travel.
(3.) Adjust the rod end bearing untilthe attachment bolt fits the hole in the bracket.
(4.) Remove the bolt and turn the rod end bearing outone full turn.
(5.) Secure the rod end to the bracket with bolt, washer, andself-lockingnut.

(k)
Lubricatethe gear assembly. (Refer to 12-20-00 Chart 3 and Figure 302.)

(I)
Servicethe oleo strut with fluid and air. (Refer to Oleo Struts, 12-10-00)


(m)Checkthe nose gear for alignment and operation.
12. Inspectionof Nose Gear Oleo
(a) Inspect the landing gear oleo assembly component for the following:
(1.) Bearings and bushings for excesswear, corrosion, scratches,and overall damage.
(2.) Retaining pins for wear and damage.
(3.) Lock rings for cracks, burrs, etc.
(4.) Cylinder, cylinder steel insert, and orifice tube for corrosion, scratches,nicks, and excess

wear. (5.) Orifice plate for hole restriction. (6.) Fork tube for corrosion, scratches,nicks, dents, and misalignment. (7.) Air valve for general condition.
13.Cleaning of Nose Gear Oleo
Clean all parts with a suitable dry tube cleaning solvent.
14. Repairof Nose Gear Oleo
(a) Repair of the oleo is limited to smoothing out minor scratches,nicks and dents and
replacementof parts.
(b)Wiper strips on gear struts can be individually replaced (refer to 32-20-00).

15.Removalof Wiper Strip on Gear Strut
(a) Placeairplaneon jacks. (Refer to 7-10-00.)
(b)Jackairplanehigh enough to take weight off gear.
(c)
Releaseair pressure fromstrut by depressing thevalve core pin until pressure has diminished.

(d)
Usingsnap ring pliers, disengage snapring from annular slot in the oleo housing, allowingit to lay at the lowerend of the pistontube along with the wiper strip retainer washer.
