E. Torque Requirements
Unlessotherwisenoted, torque values in Chart 7, derived from oil free cadmium-plated are
threads, recommended procedureswhere torquing is required. Engine and propeller
for all airframe installation torque values are found in the latest revision of the United Aircraft of Canada Limited Maintenance Manual, P/N 3013242. Chart 6 lists torque values for flared fittings of various sizes and materials.
CAUTION: DO NOT OVERTORQUE FITTINGS.
NOTE: When installing flared fittings, verify that male threads are properly lubricated. Use torque fittingsvaluesin Chart 6.

CHART 7 RECOMMENDEDNUT TORQUES (Sheet 1 of 2)
TORQUES:The importance of correct application can not be overemphasized.
Undertorque wear of nuts and bolts as well as the
can result in unnecessary
parts they are holding together. When insufficient pressures are applied,
unevenloads will be transmitted throughoutthe assembly which may result in
excessivewear or premature failure due to fatigue. Overtorquecan be equally
damagingbecause the threaded
of failure of a bolt or nut from overstressing
areas. The following proceduresshouldbe followed to assurethat the correct
torque is applied:
1.
Self-LockingFasteners-Add the friction torque from Chart'A' for sizes 8 through 7/16 to the recommended
torquefrom Chart 'B' to get the final torque. This would be the actual reading on the torque wrench. To determinefriction drag torque for sizes 1/2 through 1 1/4, turn the nut fully on to the bolt and determine the torque requiredto turn the nut. Add this friction drag torque to the torque given in Chart B'.
2.
Castellatedand Non-Self Locking Nuts -Use only the torque given in Chart'B'. Unlessotherwisespecified, whencastellatednutsare used with a cotter pin on moving joints, do not torque the nut. Turn the nut onto the bolt until proper grip is established and alignmentwiththe cotter pin hole is achieved. Then install the cotter pin.
