Attach each elevator to its collar with four AN4-5A bolts.
(g)
Rotate elevator for access. Attach aft push-pull tube to control horn.
(h)
Connect two trim tab control rods to tab torque tube arm.
(i)
Rig elevators and tabs for proper travel. (27-00-00)
(j)
Check operation for acceptable friction.

3. Hinge Tube Assembly Dismantling (Figure 2)
(a)
Remove one elevator and assembly from aircraft as described in paragraph titled elevator removal.
NOTE: Though not mandatory, it is suggested whenever a hinge tube or collar needs replacing, a matched set (consisting of the hinge tube and right and left collars) be usedto satisfy a close tolerance fit.
(b)
Remove two bolts attaching elevator down stop to hinges.
(c)
Removethrough bolts connecting two collars to hinge tube. Slide collars off tube.
(d)
Between two hinges, remove two through bolts fastening horn assembly to hinge tube.
(e)
Carefully drive hinge tube out of two hinges, spacers,and control horn.
(f)
Check hinge tube for out-of-round or excessive wear, along with collars, control horn, elongated bolt holes, and warpage.
(g)
Checkbearings for proper movement.

Positionelevatorcontrolhornon inside ofspacer.Drivetubethroughspacerintohorn.

Withanotherspacerplacedbetweenhornandotherhinge,carefullydrivetubethroughspacerandotherhinge.
(f)
Alignholes in hornwiththoseintube. Install AN174-22Athrough bolts andtorqueto30-40 inch-poundson locknuts.
(g)
Slidesecondcollarovertubewith flange awayfromhingesandat end of tube.
(h)
Withcollarpositionedproperly,alignboltholes.InstallAN174-22Athroughboltsandtorqueto 30-40inch-poundsonlocknuts.
(i)
Installdown stop.
() Ensurehornmovesfreelywithas little lateralmovementas possible.
5. ElevatorTrimTabRemoval (Figure1)
(a)
Disconnecttrimcontrolrodsfromtab torque tubearms.
(b)
Removetwoboltsin each tabconnectingtorquetubes.
(c)
Removetorquetubesfromtabsand elevators.
(d)
Disconnectgroundwiresathinges.
(e)
Toremovetabsfrom elevators, carefullyremovetwohingepinsin each tab.
6. ElevatorTrimTab Installation (Figure1)
(a)
Positiontrim tabs on hinges. Installhingebolts.
(b)
Connectgroundwires.
(c)
Witharmsup, slide trim tab torque tubesthroughelevators. Start withbearingsatroots and moveoutwardintomountingbracketsat inboard rootof trim tabs.
(d)With arms stillin an upward position,align bolt holesin tube with those in bracket. Install specialthroughbolts.
(e)Checktabsforfreemovement.
(f) Connectcontrolrodsto torque tube arms.

7. Elevator Balancing Procedure (Figure 3)
(a)
Remove complete elevator assembly (both halves) from airplane. Ensure individual elevator is in final flight configuration, including trim tab and any related components.
