5. Alignment of Nose Gear (refer to 32-20-00 Figure 502)
(a)
Place airplane on a smooth level floor which will show the striking of a chalk line.

(b)
Place airplane on jacks. (Refer to 7-10-00.)

(c)
Level airplane laterally and longitudinally. (Refer to 8-20-00 Figure 1.)

(d)
From the center of the tail skid, extend a plumb bob and mark the contact point on the floor.

(e)
Extendand attach a plumb bob from a point approximately 24 inches forward along the bottom-center row of rivets measured from tile wheel well opening. Mark the point of contact on the floor.

(f)
Usingthe two plumb bob marks as a guide, snap a chalk line extending several feet beyond eachmark.

(g)
Placethe rubber pedalsin neutral position (refer to 32-20-00 Figure 503).

NOTE: The rudder control system must be properly rigged before aligning nose gear steering.

(h)
Adjust steering rod end bearings to align nose wheel with chalk line. To align nose wheel straight forward, stand in front of the nose gear, align the center rib of the tire with the chalk line, or lay a straightedge along the side of the tire parallel and straightedge with the chalk line. One end of the rod must be disconnected and jam nuts loosened to make this adjustment. Do not attempt to make adjustment with one bearing; divide the adjustment between the bearings at each end of the rod. Check that rod ends have sufficient thread engagement, reinstall the rod and secure jam nuts.
