B.  Installationof Propeller (Figure401) (continued)
5.  Torque propeller mounting bolts as follows:
NOTE: Use only propeller attach bolts P/N B-3339 which contain part numbers stamped inside cupped head. These bolts require a 5/8 inch, 12-point socket heat wrench. For further information, see Hartzell instruction No. 140.
(a)
Apply MIL-T-5544 petrolatedgraphiteor TRW Hartzell Lubricant,P/N A 3338, to bolt threads and bolt washer surfaces. (And remainder of bolt, if desired.)

(b)
Install eight B-3339 bolts and eight A 2048-2 washers through engine flange into propeller flange.

(c)
Torque all bolts to 40 foot-pounds and 80 foot-pounds following torque sequence A in Figure 401, Propeller Installation.

(d)
Final torque all bolts from 100-105 foot-pounds following torque sequence B in Figure 401.

(e)
Safety all bolts.

Blade, Model T10173AB-6Q

Propeller RPM Setting Engine Static High RPM 2000 RPM max.
Beta Nut Setting @ 2000 RPM 27 degrees

Propeller Torque Limits Description  Required Torque

ment Screws 65-100 in.-lb (Dry) Spinner Attachment Screws 40 in.-lb (Dry) Flex Lock (Dome) Nut 120 ft-lb (Dry) Beta Ring Jam Nuts 12 ft-lb (Dry)

*Hub assembly provided with Low Pitch Stop, Propeller
external feather stops Nuts 22 ft-lb (Dry)

6.
Install deicer brush block.

NOTE: Check clearance by holding carbon block against face of feedback ring. Use fine sandpaper on block to obtain clearance. Ensure block is free to rotate in reversing lever.

7.
Install propeller reversing lever with carbon block riding in feedback ring, maintaining 0.005 inch clearance.

8.
Rotate propeller slowly and check feedback ring run out with dial indicator. Run out must not exceed0.010 inch total indicator.

NOTE: The low pitch rod with an x on the feedback ring must not be adjusted. Adjust other two only.
If run out is excessive, loosen nut on front of low stop rods and jam nut at feedback ring. Adjust low pitch stop rods to obtain specified tolerance. Torque jam nuts at feedback ring to 12 foot-pounds and nut on front of low stop rods to 22 foot-pounds.

C.  DynamicBalancingof Propellers
The propellers of the PA-42-720are dynamically balancedat the factory. Anysubsequentdynamic
balancingof propellers must be performedby certifiedpersonnel.
Propellersdynamicallybalancedareidentifiedby HartzellPropeller,Inc.,decalWAR-001,on the fore
and aft sidesof the spinnerbulkhead.
Use indexmarks to identifythe relationship of the spinnerandspinnerbulkheadbeforeremoval.

D.  Cleaning,Inspection,and Repairof Propeller
NOTE:  Referto latest revisionof Hartzell PropellerServiceLetterNo. 61for Recommended OverhaulPeriodsunder various conditions.
1.
Checkfor oil and grease leaks.

2.
Cleanspinner,propellerhub interiorand exterior,and blades with a non-corrosivesolvent.

3.
Inspecthubpartsfor cracks.

4.
Checkall visible partsfor wear andsafety.

5.
Donot let steel hub partsrust. Usealuminumpaintto touchup if necessaryor replace duringoverhaul.

CAUTION:  DO NOTATTEMPTTO ROTATEPROPELLERBLADESUSINGBLADEARMS, DAMAGINGFEEDBACKRING.

6.
Ensurebladesturn freely on hub pilottube by rocking counterweightsbackand forth. If blades

appeartight, pitchchange mechanism cannotbe removed or eachbladecheckedindividually. If bladesare not properlylubricatedandtightened, propellermustbe overhauled.
