Inspectbladesfor damage or cracks.Nicksin leading edgesof blades, whichprovideconditions allowingfatiguecracksto start, mustbe filed out and roundedwith fine emery. (SeeFigure801 for propellerbladecare.)

Checkconditionof propeller mounting bolts. FederalAviationRegulationsrequiresthat for severe damage,internalrepairs, and partsreplacement,the propeller mustbe broughtto the Hartzell factoryor a certified repairstation.

Sandlightlyand paint eachbladeface,whennecessary,withflat blackpaintto retard glare. Applylightapplicationof oil or wax to surfaces to prevent corrosion.

10.
Checkconditionof lowstoprods and feedbackring.

CAUTION: DO NOTBLOWOUTHUBGASKETSDURINGFOLLOWINGPROCEDURE.

11.
Greaseblade hub throughzerkfittings. Remove one of two fittings for each propellerblade, alternatingfittingthe next time. Apply grease throughzerk fitting untilfresh grease appearsat hole of fitting removed.

Removebolt,washer,and nut attachinggovernorcontrolarmto interconnectingrod.

(f)
Removebolt,spacer,and nutconnectinglinkto propellerreverselever.

(g)
Removeclevispinfromfork endof Betacontrolvalve.

(h)
Removenutsandwashers,withdrawgovernorfrommountingpad, and removegasket.


2. Installationof PropellerConstantSpeedGovernor
(a)
Installgasketover studson governormountingpadwith raisedsideof screenfacingup.

(b)
Installgovernor,securewith washersand self-lockingnuts,andtorquenuts170-190inch-pounds.

(c)
Connectfork endof Betacontrolvalveto reversingleverwith pin. Securewith washersand cotterpin.

(d)
Securefork endof controllinkto propellerreversingleverwith bolt,spacer,washer,and nut. Torquenut 24-36inch-poundsandsecurewith cotterpin.

(e)
Connectgovernorcontrolarmto interconnectingrodwith bolt,washer,and nut. Torquenut 25-35 inch-poundsand securewith cotterpin.

(f)
Connectpneumatictube atgovernor,torquecouplingnut90-100inch-pounds,and lockwire.

(g)
Connectandsecureelectricalconnectionsto governor.

(h)
Connectproppitchcontrolrodto governorcontrollever.

(i)
Checkgovernoradjustments.

(j)
Reinstallenginecowling.


3. ConstantSpeedGovernorAdjustments (Figure501)
After repairor replacementof propellergovernor,checkadjustmentsasfollows:
(a)
Withenginestatic,disconnectfrontair pressuretube atgovernorconnection. Blankoff nipple with suitablecap.

(b)
Performpre-startcheck.

(c)
Startengineandallowit to warmup in idlesettinguntil normaloperatingoil temperatureis reached. (75°C(167°F)minimum.)

CAUTION: DONOTADJUSTPNEUMATICMAXIMUMADJUSTMENT.(FIGURE501)

(d)
Advancepowercontrolleverto obtain80% Ng. Performtwo featheringcyclesto purgeair from system. Toreducefeatheringtime,turn featheringadjuster(Figure501)counterclockwise.

NOTE: Twocompleteturns (counterclockwisefromthe nominalsetting)is the maximum permittedadjusterrange.

(e)
Setpropellercontrolleverin fine pitch,and advancepowercontrolleverto allowconstant propellerspeed. Temporarilymarkpositionof leveronquadrantand recordNg.

(f)
Loosenlocknut,and adjustgoverningmaximumspeedadjuster(Figure501)to obtaindesired Ng. Counterclockwiserotationof screwincreasesspeed. Tightenlocknutwhenadjustmentis completed.
