considerationmustbe given to overall conditionof deicer. f large partsofdeicerstretcharea arecrackedorcheckedto a depth of over 0.005inch, do notrepair.Deicerswith slight checks in stretchareacan be coatedwithconductivecement.If checking isdeep but restrictedto smallarea,repair damaged area. Deicersswelledorsoftenedby contact withoilor other
harmfulagentsmustbescrapped.Determineifdamageisrepairableby depending upon carefuljudgmentofinspectorandexperienceandtrainingofworkman.
(c) MaterialsForVulcanizedRepairs
Theeffectivenessof any repairdependsonananalysisof damage andselectionof correct repairmaterial.Deicersarecompoundedto resistsunlightandweather,andretainflexibility. Useonlymaterialslistedin Chart 4 when makingvulcanizedrepairs.Selectmaterialsspecified foreachrepairandavoidsubstitution.Since many materialsaredustedwithsoapstone,wash all materialscarefullywithwashingorcleaningsolventbeforeuse. Chart5 liststoolsand equipmentsuitablefor repair work.
