(a)
Removetailcone/stinger.Donotdamagehorizontalfins.
(b)
Disconnectall groundingstraps. Sealconnectionsfromrudder.
(c)
Loosenruddercontrolcables.
(d)
Removeboltattachingtrim screwshaftto trim shaftarm. Swingtrim actuatingassemblyoutof way.
(e)
Moveaccessplatehalfwayup rudderon leftsideof its leading edge,for accessto trim cable sectorassembly.
(f)
Removelowertaperedpin. Pulllowertrim shaftfrombottomof rudder sectorassembly.
(g)
Removesafetywire fromboltsattachingruddertorquetube to sector assembly. Removebolts. Be sure rudderis properlysupported.
(h)
Remove center hingebolt.
(i)
Removeleadingedgeaccessplateat topof rudder. Removebolt in hingepinandwithdrawpinfrom assembly.
() Remove rudder.

2. Rudder Installation (Figure1)
(a)
With rudder aligned,install top hinge pin, bolt, and middlehinge bolt.
(b)
Connectall ground stripsand rudder aerodynamicseal.
(c)
Reinstall bolts connectingmain rudder torquetube to rudder control sector.
(d)
Safety wire all bolts and retightencontrol cables.
(e)
Reinstalltrim torque tube as follows:
a.
Inserttube through rudder torque tube and hold in place. After securing, the arm on bottomof tube should extendtowardsleft side of aircraft.
b.
Installtapered pin.
c.
Reconnecttrim screw shaft to torque tube arm.
(f)
Operate controls to ensure controls operate properly.
(g)
Connectall access plates and fairings.
3. RudderTrim Tab Removal (Figure 1)
(a)
Removefairing/accesscoverswhere cables come throughrudder.
(b)
Loosen cable tumbuckles.Removecable securing fixtureson trim tab sectors.
(c)
Remove hinge bolts and tab.
4. RudderTrimTab Installation
(a)
Install tab with requiredhardware.Connect cables.
(b)
Retightencabletumbucklesand rig.
(c)
Reinstallfairing/covers.

5. Rudder Balancing Procedure (Figure 2)
(a)
Removerudder from airplane and support it on knife edges horizontally at top and bottom hinge locations. Hinge line fulcrums can be made from 0.625 inch and 1.25 inch diameter bar stock, turned to 0.25 inch diameter at support ends, and slipped into torque tubes at top and bottom of rudder.
(b)
Ensure surface rotate freely with no binding at knife edges.
(c)
Verifythat unbalance is between limits. (29 ± 1 in.-lbs, trailing edge heavy.)
(d)
If surface is leading edge heavy, remove material from surface balance weight until a balanced condition is obtained.
(e)
If surface is trailing edge heavy, determine and correct reason for unbalance.
(f)
With balance check completed, install rudder assembly on aircraft as explained in this chapter.

6. Rudder Control System Friction Measurement (Figure 2)
CAUTION: THE RUDDER MUST BE ROTATED WITH STEADY MOVEMENT AND FORCE READING TAKEN WHEN RUDDER PASSES THROUGH NEUTRAL POSITION. DO NOT STOP ROTATION WHEN TAKING READING.
The complete rudder system, including autopilot if installed, must be rigged for proper travels and cable tensions prior to determining friction in system. (27-00-00)
