for checking landing gear wheel alignment.
(f)
If a gap appears at the rear between the block and square, the wheel is toed-out and must be realigned. If a gap appears at the forward end between the block and the square, the wheel has too much toe-in and must be realigned for a 0.5 degree toe-in.

(g)
To correct toe-in or toe-out conditions, removethe bolt connectingtheupper and lower torque links, remove or add spacer washersto move the wheel in the desired direction, andreinstall the bolt.

(h)
Recheckwheelalignment. If the alignment is correct, safety the castellated nut with a new cotter pin. If misalignment still exists, separate the torque links and add or remove a spacer washer. Limit the number of spacers installed to allow for installation of the cotter pin in the bolt.

6. Inspectionof Main Landing Gear
(a)
Inspect bolts, bearings, bushings, and ball joints for excess wear, corrosion, and damage.

(b)
Inspectthe gear housing, side brace links, idler links, rods, and attachment plates for cracks, bends,or misalignment.

(c)
Inspect lock hook for wear and oversized bearingsurfaces.

(d)
Inspectthe lock hook springs for the following:

(1.) Excesswear or corrosion especiallyaround the hook portion of springs. A spring must be rejectedif wear or corrosion exceedsone-quarterthe diameter of spring.
(2.) Check lock hook springs for load tensions belowthe minimum allowabletolerances. The minimumtensionfor up lock hook springs is 4 pounds and the down lock hook springs 7 pounds. Perform thesechecks by fastening a fish type scale to the particular hookand springand pulling againstthe hook and spring for a reading on the scale.
(e)
Inspectup lock roller for free movement and minimum wobble.

(f)
Inspectionboth up lock and down lock rods sliding surfaces for corrosion, free movement, and lubrication.

(g)
Inspect general condition of limit switches andwiring for fraying, poor connections, or conditionsleadingto failures.

(h)
Attach upper and lower drag links. Ensurethat when stop surfaces of the two links contact, linkageis 0.219 to 0.281 inch throughcenter(refer to 32-10-00 Figure 401). If this distance exceedsthe required through center travel, and if all bolts and bushings are tight, replace one or both side brace links.

(i)
Inspect landing gear trunnionbolts to ensure proper length bolts are installed. (A minimum of

onethread must be showing beyondthe top of the nuts.)
(j). Inspect main landing gear forward side braces as follows:

(1.) Remove paint (refer to 32-10-00 Figure 601) on both forward side braces.
ApproximateAreaof Cracks.
Paint To Be Removed For Inspection.

NOTE: If alodine is undamaged, repaintingis not necessary between repetitive 50 hour inspectionintervals.
(2.) Inspectarea for cracks using dye penetrant or Zyglo procedures. Pay particular attention
totop surface of affected parts.
(3.) If cracks are found, replace affected part(s) immediately prior to any further flights.
(4.) Complete appropriatelogbook entry.

(b)
Iflock hook springs are corroded [refer to Inspectionof Main Landing Gear, step (d)(1.)], clean allcorrosionandrepaint the springs.

8. Repair of Main Landing Gear
Repair of the landing gear is limited to replacing bearings and bushings, smoothing out minor nicks and scratches, repainting of parts.
areas where paint has chipped or peeled, and replacement
9. Disassemblyof Main Gear Oleo (referto 32-10-00 Figure 402)
Themain gear oleo assembly is removed anddisassembledfrom the gear oleo housing with the gear removed orinstalledon the airplane as follows:
(a)
Place airplane on jacks. (Refer to Jacking, 7-10-00.)

(b)
Place a drip pan under main gear to catch spillage.

(c)
Remove air and fluid from oleo. (Refer to Oleo Struts.)

(d)To remove piston tube assembly from oleo housing, removeupper and lower torque link connectingbolt assembly and separate links. Note number and thickness of spacer washers betweentwo links.
(e)
Compresspiston tube, reach up along the tube, and release the retainer ring from the annular slot at the bottom of oleo housing.

(f)
Pull piston tube with component parts from housing cylinder.
