(1.) With one inch masking tape, mask off leading edge boot area, following 1/2-inch margin for non-recessed boots. Ensure tape is masked accurately to eliminate cleaning off excesscement later.
(2.) Clean metal surfaces atleast twice with MEK or acetone. For final cleaning, wipeoff solventfilmquicklywith clean, dry cloth before it dries.
NOTE: If desired, reapply zinc chromate primerover bare leading edges. Whenhard, scuffsand chromate surfacesand clean beforeapplyingcement.
Deicerscan be installedon alodined or anodized surfaces.
(3.) Fill gaps of skin splices that leadunder deicers withsealingcompoundEC-801.
(4.) Removesump plugs from air connection grommets.Removesectionsof doped fabric usedto cover the air connection holes,if necessary. Draw out ends of non-kink hose sectionto protrude through connectionholesin leading edge. If hole is crackedor deteriorated, replacehose.

11. Installation (continued)
Usingclampsor safetywire, attach hose to deicerconnectionsas follows:
1.
Holdingbacksideof boot close to leading edge, fastenend of each non-kink hose to correspondingairconnection stem. Usetinnermanor other suitable non-kink hose clamps. Tighteneachclamp using slip joint pliers. Do not over squeeze clamp, damaging

hose.

2.
Pushhoseconnectionsinto either leading edgegrommetsor seals. (Limit handling cementedside of boot.) Reactivatecementalongcenterlineleadingedge surfaceand boot in spanwise strips,approximately6 inches wide. Rubber roll deicer firmlyagainst leadingedge, being careful notto trap air under deicer. Alwaysrollparallelto inflatable tubes. Positiondeicercenterlineto coincide with leading edgecenterline. Hold boot in positionwhile reactivatingabout3 inches around connections andcorrespondingholes in leadingedge, using a clean, lint-free cloth moistenedwith Toluol. Insert connections in leadingedge holes after cement has dried to a tacky state and rubber roll boot to leading edgeof tacky area.

3.
Ifdeicerattachesoff line, use MEK to remove and repositionproperly.Avoid twisting or sharp bending of deicer.

4.
Rubberroll, applying pressureover entire deicersurfaceparallel to inflatabletubes. Roll edges with narrow stitcher-roller.

CAUTION:  AVOID EXCESSIVE SOAKING OR RUBBING OF CEMENT, WHICH COULD REMOVECEMENTFROMSURFACE.

5.
Removeall masking tape and clean surfaces carefully with MEK. Prevent solventfrom runningunder deicer edges.

6.
Applymaskingtapeto deicer edges where exposed trimmedendsor gaps between sectionsmust be filled with MMM EC-801 sealingcompound.

7.
Applymasking tape to deicerapproximately1/4-inch in fromtrailingedgesand to wing skin approximately1/4-inchfrom trailing edges, both forming a neat, straight line.

8.
Apply brush coatof A-56-B cement to surfacesbetweentapesand to EC-801 seams. Ensureconductivecoating(A-56-B)is continuousfromdeicersurfaceto wing painted surface.

9.
Removetape immediatelyafter applying A-56-Bcement(before cement dries).

10.
Install flow strips ontoleadingedgeusing3M EC1300L cement asshownon Figure 3.

NOTE:  Applicationof A-56-Bconductivecement is not necessary on deicers containing CONDUCTIVElabels.
WARNING: CEMENTSAND SOLVENTS USED ARE FLAMMABLEANDTHEIRFUMES TOXIC. CONDUCTALL WORK IN A WELLVENTILATEDAREAAWAY FROMSPARKS OR FLAMES.(USEOF SOLVENTRESISTANTGLOVES
IS RECOMMENDED.)
If boots mustbe removed or loosened, useMEKto soften the adhesionline. Applya minimum of solvent to seam linewhile applying tensionto peel backboot. Remove slowenoughto allow solventto undercut cement preventingdamageto part. Avoid excessivequantitiesof solvent.
