Removefastenersconnectingintercooler air inlet duct to lower cowling.

(g)
Loosenclamps securing bleed air hoses to bleed air louvers. Remove hoses from louvers.

CAUTION: TO PROTECT AGAINSTDAMAGE TO LOWER COWLING AND DEICERBOOT LEADS,SUPPORTLOWER COWLING BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH NEXT STEP.

(h)
Disconnect fasteners securinglowercowling to nacelle. Remove cowling from aircraft.


2. Installationof Cowling (Figure 401)
The procedurefor installing cowling is the same for either engine:
(a)
Positionand support lower cowling in place. Secure cowling with fasteners previously removed.

(b)
Connectrodto ice deflector doorand install access cover.

(c)
Connectelectrical leads to proper leads on limit switches and deicer boot. Reconnect intercoolerair inlet duct.

(d)
Reconnectbleed-air hoses to bleed-air louvers and secure with clamps.

(e)
Position upper half in place, connect starter-generatorinlet and outlet cooling ducts to upper cowling. Connect allfasteners,latches,and fixtures along cowling.

(f)
Check cowling and attachment hardwareforsecurity.


3. Cleaning,Inspection,and Repair of Cowling
(a)
Cleanthe cowling with a suitable solvent and wipe with a clean cloth.

(b)
Inspectthe cowling for dents, cracks, loose rivets, damaged or missing fasteners. Refer to the latest revision of Piper Service Letter 925.

CAUTION: SINCEKEVLAR ABSORBS WATERAT UNFINISHED SURFACES,AFFECTING STRUCTURAL STRENGTH, DO NOT DRILL OR PUT HOLES IN THIS STRUCTURE.

Repairall defects to prevent further damage. Refer to Du Pont KEVLAR. Special Products Division for further information.

A. Mounts
1. Replacement of Shock Mounts (Refer to 71-00-00 Figure 401.)
Replace engine shock mounts as follows:
NOTE: Engine sling must remain in place until all engine mounting bolts are tightened to specified torque values.
NOTE: Lubricate all threads using a thread lubricant, engine oil, or equivalent.
(a)
Remove engine cowling. (Referto 71-10-00.)

(b)
Attach a sling to engine lift points, and using a one-half ton hoist, relieve tension on mounts.

(c)
Remove engine mounting bolts and forward half of the mount assemblies.

(d)
Carefully raise the engine just enough to remove the shock mounts. Check all lines, wires, and cables for interference. Disconnect lines and cables if necessary.

(e)
Check all components for wear, damage, or cracks.

(f)
Attach mounting pad (with gasket) to engine and torque special pad mounting bolts to 225-300 inch-pounds. Safety with MS20995-C41 safety wire.

(g)
Install new mounting kit and new mounting hardware.

(h)
Lower engine slowly and use mounting bolts to keep the components aligned.

(i)
When the engine is supported by the mounts, check mounts for proper seating. () Torque mounting bolts to 450 to 500 inch-pounds.

A. Fire Seals
The engine fire seals are bolted to engine fire seal flange forward andaft of engine compressorintake.
The fire seals, constructed of semicircular sections,aredesignedto form a fire seal between the
engine and cowling. The fire seals also provide a mounting location and support for lines, wires,and
cablesroutedfromfirewallto engine frontaccessories.
