Loosenlocknut and remove rod end. Remove locknutfrom piston.

Removesafety wire and loosen both knurled nuts.

Removeend cap from barrel.
(e)
Removeclevis end from barrel. Pull piston with end cap from barrel, being careful not to lose any of the six balls nested in the head end of the piston.
(f)
Removeend cap from piston.
(g)
Pull race, plunger, and spring out of the clevis end.
(h)
RemoveGT-ringfrom end cap.
(i)
RemoveO-rings and back up rings from barrel.
(j)
RemoveGT-ringfrom piston.
(k)
RemoveO-ringand back up ring from plunger.

23. Installationof GearDoorActuatingCylinders
(a)
Positioncylinderon its mountingbracket. Securewith attachmentbolts.
(b)
Extendcylindercontrolrodenoughto attachrod endto door. Securewith attachmentbolt.
(c)
Connecthydrauliclineto cylinder.
(d)
Tobringgear doorbackto theclosedposition,set masterswitchON. Placegearleverin the DOWNpositionand actuatethe handpumpuntilthe doorcloses.
24. Inspectionof GearDoorActuatingCylinders
(a)
Inspectall threadedsurfacesfor cleanliness,cracks,andexcessivewear.
(b)
Inspectplungerspringforbreaksanddistortion.Compressspringto a lengthof 0.750inches and measureload. Loadshouldbe 30± 2 pounds.
(c)
Inspectend cap,piston,barrel,race,plunger,andclevisendfor cracks,chips,scratches, scoring,wear,and surfaceirregularitieswhichcouldaffectfunctionof dooractuatorcylinder.
25. Cleaningof Gear DoorActuatingCylinders
(a) Cleancylinderpartswith a suitablesolvent;dry thoroughly.
26. Repairof Gear DoorActuatingCylinders
(a)
Replaceall defectivelandinggearactuatorassemblypartswith newparts.
(b)
Minorscratchesand scorescanbe removedby polishingwith fineabrasivecrocuscloth (FederalSpecificationP-C-458)providingtheir removaldoesnot affectoperationof actuator assembly.
(c)
Replaceall O-rings,backup rings,andGT-ringswith newonesduring reassemblyof actuator.
