 CAUTION: THE APU BATTERY CONNECTOR MAY BE REMOVED WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS
_______ SUPPLIED WITH EXTERNAL POWER. EXTERNAL POWER PROVIDES PROTECTION FOR THE AC BUSES DURING APU BATTERY CONNECTOR REMOVAL. DO NOT REMOVE THE APU BATTERY CONNECTOR IF THE AIRPLANE IS SUPPLIED WITH IDG OR APU GENERATOR POWER. THE AC BUSES ARE NOT PROTECTED DURING APU BATTERY CONNECTOR REMOVAL IF THE IDG OR APU GENERATOR SUPPLIES POWER, AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE COULD OCCUR.
 (1)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:

 (a)  
On the P183 panel:
 1) APU BAT CHGR
 2) APU BATTERY BUS


 (b)  
On the P6 panel:
 1) 6J9, APU BAT BUS APU BAT-CONT

Make sure the BATTERY switch, on the P5 panel, is set to OFF and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

 (3)  
Disconnect the APU battery connectors from the APU battery.

 (a)  
Remove the sealing wire from the battery connector knob.

 (b)  
Turn the knob on the APU battery connector (DM7432A) counterclockwise until the connector is free from the APU battery receptacle.

 (c)  
Disconnect the electrical connector (DM7432B) from the APU battery receptacle.

APU Battery Connector Examination

 (1)  
Check the battery sensor connector as follows:

 (a)  
If any of the following is found, repair or replace the connector. 1) Corrosion or pitting of the contacts. 2) Burn marks on the contacts. 3) Bent or pushed back contacts. 4) Damage or corrosion to the connector body.

 (2)  
Check the APU battery power connector as follows:

 (a)
Remove the two (2) bolts that hold the connector together.

If any of the following conditions are found, replace the main battery connector. 1) Corrosion and pitting of the power contacts or terminal lug
 mating surfaces . 2) Excessive free play or broken pins on the handwheel-worm assembly. 3) Burn marks on the power contacts or terminal lug mating surfaces.
 NOTE: Battery connectors with solder and wire socket
____ contacts, the ends and the inner bore are contact areas.
 NOTE: Battery connectors with finger type contacts, the
____
 inner bore is the contact area.

Check the resiliency of the battery connector power contactor
 as follows:
 1) Put the 0.385 end of the tool into the power contact.
 2) Make sure the fit is snug and it requires a (1) one pound

 force to remove the tool.Check the ability for the power contact to mate with a worn or undersize pin. 1) Insert the 0.370 end of the tool in the power contact.
 a)  Make sure the fit is snug and it requires a (1) one
 pound force to remove the tool.Check the contact bar as follows: 1) If the contact bar is held on with a screw, make sure the
 screw and the contact bar are tight.
 NOTE: Use the standard torque values for the screw

 2)  If the contact bar is held with a rivet, make sure the contact bar can not be removed from the connector.
 NOTE: The contact bar is installed loose on the handwheel
