____ removal, you can pull the circuit breakers according to the steps that follow. You only need to pull the circuit breakers applicable to the GCU you remove or install. This alternative method is applicable only for a GCU removal/installation. If you remove or install a BCU, you must remove all electrical power from the airplane.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE FOR THE RELATED GCU (ENGINE 1 FOR GCU
_______ 1, ENGINE 2 FOR GCU 2, ENGINE 3 FOR GCU 3, AND ENGINE 4 FOR GCU 4) IS NOT OPERATING. THE IDG SUPPLIES PERMANENT MAGNET GENERATOR (PMG) POWER TO THE GCU WHEN THE ENGINE OPERATES. IF YOU REMOVE THE GCU WHILE THE IDG SUPPLIES PMG POWER TO THE GCU, DAMAGE TO THE GCU MAY OCCUR.
 (a)  
If the engine related to the GCU you remove is operating, stop the engine.

 (b)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 NOTE: Open these circuit breakers when you remove GCU 1.

 1)  On the P180 or P180-1 panel:
 a) C8 or M4, GCU 1
 b) B25, GCU 1 ALT

 2)  On the P514 panel:
 a) GCU 1 PHASE C SYNCH BUS

 (c) Open these circuit breakers and attach the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
 NOTE: Open these circuit breakers when you remove GCU 2.

 1)  On the P180 or P180-1 panel:
 a) C9 or M5, GCU 2

 D.  Remove the Control Unit

Make sure the BATTERY switch, on the P5 panel, is set to OFF and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

Remove the applicable GCU or BCU from the E/E rack (AMM 20-11-22/401).
