 When an external normally closed circuit to ground is opened (pin 8 of the battery charger connector), the battery charger will operate in the T-R unit mode with a regulated output voltage of 27.75 volts. This mode of operation occurs whenever the battery buses transfer to the hot battery buses when input power to the battery chargers is present.

 In this mode, the unit is rated for a continuous output load of 60 amps with forced air cooling. With natural convection cooling only, the unit can supply an output load of 50 amps for at least 30 minutes.

 (30)
 The unit efficiency and power factor are a minimum of 82 percent and 0.92, respectively, for all loads between 50 and 100 percent of full load.

 MAIN BATTERY - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. One task is the removal of the main battery (M7423). The other task is the installation of the main battery.
 B.  The main battery is installed between the fuselage and the wheel well for the nose gear, on the right side. Access to the main battery is through a small access opening forward of the E/E compartment.

 (1) Put the hoist for the main battery in position (Fig. 401).

 CAUTION: THE MAIN BATTERY MAY BE REMOVED WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS SUPPLIED
_______ WITH EXTERNAL POWER. EXTERNAL POWER PROVIDES PROTECTION FOR THE AC BUSES DURING MAIN BATTERY REMOVAL. DO NOT REMOVE THE MAIN BATTERY IF THE AIRPLANE IS SUPPLIED WITH IDG OR APU GENERATOR POWER. THE AC BUSES ARE NOT PROTECTED DURING MAIN BATTERY REMOVAL IF THE IDG OR APU GENERATOR SUPPLIES POWER, AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE COULD OCCUR.

Open these circuit breakers and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:

 (a)  
On the P414 panel:
 1) 414P18, MAIN BATTERY CHARGER


 (b)  
On the P6 panel: 1) 6K1, MAIN HOT BATTERY BUS CONTROL

 (3)  Make sure the BATTERY switch, on the P5 panel, is set to OFF and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
