BATTERIES - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________
General
_______
A. There are two 40-ampere-hour nominal 24-volt dc nickle-cadmium batteries installed in the airplane. There are also two battery chargers that provide dc output for regulated charging of the batteries and also operate as a Transformer Rectifier Unit (TRU) if three or more TRUs fail. The ac power for the battery chargers is supplied from the ground service bus.
B. The batteries and battery chargers in the main and APU systems are
identical and are interchangeable.Main Battery (Fig. 1)
____________
A. The main battery is a 40-ampere-hour 24-volt dc nickle-cadmium battery, which consists of a case, cover, twenty cell assemblies, and a temperature sensor assembly. The temperature sensor assembly includes a thermoswitch and a charge control thermistor. The main battery is located in the forward-right main equipment center.
Main Battery Charger (Fig. 2)
____________________
A. The battery charger is installed to provide a dc output for regulated charging of the battery and also to operate as a TRU. The main battery charger is forced air cooled and is located on the E-30 shelf in the forward-right main equipment center.
Main Battery Charger Disable Relay (Fig. 3)
__________________________________
A. The main battery charger disable relay removes the 115-volt ac ground
service bus from the input of the main battery charger when energized.APU Battery (Fig. 4)
___________
A. The APU battery is identical to the main battery and is interchangeable. The APU battery is located in the aft, left side of the airplane on the E-33 equipment shelf.
