6. Component Description_____________________
R A. Windshield
R (Ref. Fig. 006, 007)
R The heating element is a film.
R Two temperature sensors (or optionally three depending on the windshield
R partnumber), are installed inside each windshield (one sensor active, the
R other(s) spare).
R B. Fixed and Sliding Windows
R (Ref. Fig. 008, 009, 010)
The heating element of the window is a wire system.
Two single loop sensors are installed in each of the sliding and fixed
windows.
C. WHC
(Ref. Fig. 011)
The WHC provides the functions given below:
- temperature regulation,
- monitoring,
- safety.
There are two WHCs:
- one for the right side identified WHC2,
- one for the left side identified WHC1.
The regulation nominal is to between 35 and 42 deg.C (95 and 107.60
deg.F) for each window.
The regulation minimum range which includes tolerances is to between 30
and 38 deg.C (86 and 100.40 deg.F).
The temperature sensor cuts off heating when the temperature is plus or
minus 60 deg.C (140 deg.F).
The WHC provides two heating levels for the windshield:
- high level in flight,
- low level on the ground.
Low/high level ratio is 1/3.
7. Operation/Control & Indicating______________________________
R A. Monitoring
R (Ref. Fig. 012)
R The faults of the heating system of each window are shown on the ECAM
R display unit. The WHC automatically stops heating.
R The WHC serves to:
R - identify the faulty component(s),
R - store the fault(s) in a memory which is not erased after supply
R cut-off.

B. Indicating (Ref. Fig. 013, 014, 015) The WHC continuously emits warnings via the ARINC 429 bus. Two discrete outputs (one for the windshield, one for the two windows) inform the crew of a heating fault. The WHC transmits this information to the Flight Warning Computer (FWC).
C. Maintenance Test (Ref. Fig. 016, 017) A signal from the CFDIU permits to check the correct operation of the system and of the related safety features. The ground/flight transition deletes the memory.
D. Leading Particulars
(1)
A loss of 28 Volt supply is indicated as a failure.
(2)
The WHC includes electromagnetic power contactors.
(3)
The WHC also incorporates protections against overvoltages due to lightning strike and to static electricity on the windows.
(4)
The power outputs are protected against short circuits.
(5)
The test function is inhibited in flight.

8. BITE Test
_________ The WHC performs a maintenance test initiated by the CFDIU and a power-up test. The purpose of the test is to check the following:
