 (9)  Remove the hydraulic tube which connects the shock strut to the shutoff valve (View A, Fig. 301).

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT GET FLUID ON THE TIRES. IF FLUID GETS ON A TIRE, CLEAN THE TIRE IMMEDIATELY. HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO TIRES.
 (10) Drain the hydraulic fluid from the shock strut:
 (a)  Remove the pressure cap from the oil fill valve at the bottom of the shock strut (View B).

 (b) Attach the hydraulic fluid line to the oil fill valve. S 683-039
 (11) Compress the shock strut very slowly with the axle jack until the shock strut is fully compressed.
 NOTE: Discard the fluid that overflows.

 S 613-040 CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED HYDRAULIC FLUID WHICH IS SHOWN ON THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT. OTHER TYPES OF FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SHOCK STRUT SEALS.
 (12) Fill the shock strut with the applicable hydraulic fluid:
 (a)  
Remove the pressure cap from the oil fill valve on the pressure

 gage.

 (b)  
Attach the hydraulic fluid line to the oil fill valve.

 (c)  
Open the oil fill valve.

 (d)  
Fill the shock strut until the hydraulic fluid flows through the hydraulic tube port at the top of the shock strut without bubbles.

 (e)  
Close the oil fill valve.

 (f)  
If you did not use the fully formulated fluid, do the steps that follow to add Lubrizol: 1) Remove a small quantity of fluid from the shock strut.


 a) Open the oil fill valve.
 b) Use the container with graduations to drain

 approximately 30 ounces of fluid from the shock strut. 2) Close the oil fill valve. 3) Add 20 ounces of Lubrizol 1395 through the hydraulic tube
 port at the top of the shock strut. 4) Connect the hydraulic line to the oil fill valve and open the oil fill valve.

 5)  Fill the shock strut until the hydraulic fluid flows through the hydraulic tube port at the top of the shock strut without air bubbles.
 6)  Close the oil fill valve.
 (g)  Remove the hydraulic fluid line and install the pressure cap on the oil fill valve.

 Install the hydraulic tube which goes from the shutoff valve to the shock strut.

 Lower and remove the axle jack.

 Lower the airplane (AMM 07-11-01/201).


 NOTE: The airplane can stay on jacks until all other maintenance

 that requires jacks is done.

 (16) Pressurize the shock strut with nitrogen or dry air (Fig. 302).
 (a)  Use the manifold assembly or the strut inflation tool to pressurize the shock strut through the air charging valve. 1) Measure the dimension X. 2) Measure the strut pressure with a pressure gage. 3) Add or release the necessary pressure to get a dimension X
 in the band on the servicing chart.

 Close the air charging valve for the shock strut.

 Install the cap on the air charging valve.

 After several landings, measure the pressure and dimension X.  If they are not in the band on the servicing chart, add or release gas until they are in the band.
