The full servicing for the shock strut on the wing landing gear

 (2)
A fast check of the servicing for all of the main landing gear

 (3)
A task to measure the fluid level in the shock strut without the removal of the fluid (pressure/extension check).

 B.  There is no easy procedure to do a check of the fluid level in the shock strut. The volume of the fluid changes when you pressurize the shock strut with nitrogen or dry air. You must do the full servicing procedure to accurately fill the shock strut.
 C.  On the pressure gages for the shock struts, the vendor bends the indicator during calibration. A gage with a bent indicator is usually satisfactory.
 TASK 12-15-03-613-017
 2.  Wing Landing Gear Shock Strut Servicing_______________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)
This task has the instructions to fill and pressurize a shock strut of the wing landing gear. This procedure has the same data that is on the nameplate and servicing placard on the shock strut.

 (2)
Each shock strut contains approximately 21.0 gallons of hydraulic fluid. When the shock strut is full of fluid, you will pressurize it with nitrogen or dry air.

 (3)
If only small quantities of fluid are necessary, you can use fluid without lubricant to fill the shock strut. If large quantities are necessary, add lubricant to the shock strut. As an alternative, you can use a fluid which has an added lubricant.

 C.  Standard Tools and Equipment
 (1)
Clean, nitrogen or dry air source - 2000 psi with pressure gages

 (2)
Container with graduations - 90-ounce minimum capacity

 D.  Consumable Materials

 (2) D00509 Fluid - Hydraulic, Petroleum Base, MIL-H-6083 (alternate)
NOTE: Unless you use only a small amount of fluid, approximately
____ 1.0 percent of the total, you must mix MIL-H-6083 in the correct proportion with Lubrizol 1395 before you fill the shock strut. You can use this fluid with MIL-H-6083 and use it as an alternative for MIL-H-5606.
 (3) D00070 Oil - Hydraulic, Petroleum Base, MIL-H-5606 (alternate)
NOTE: Unless you use only a small amount of fluid, approximately
____ 1.0 percent of the total, you must mix MIL-H-5606 in the correct proportion with Lubrizol 1395 before you fill the shock strut. The MIL-H-5606 is recommended fluid over the MIL-H-6083 fluid. MIL-H-5606 and MIL-H-6083 fluids can be intermixed.
 (4) D00467 Fluid - Fully Formulated Hydraulic, BMS 3-32 (Recommended)
Type I - Royco SSF, Shell SSF and Castrolaero 35 (These fluids
contain the mixture of MIL-H-6083 and Lubrizol 1395)
Type II - Royco LGF, Shell LGF and Castrolaero 40 (These fluids are the recommended fluid for servicing and contain the mixture of MIL-H-5606 and Lubrizol 1395)
