F. Find the Cause of the Fuel Spill Condition
S 863-064
(1) Make sure the airplane is in this configuration:
(a)
FUEL OVERFILL CONTROL, 415M14, Circuit breaker - closed
(b)
VTO override switch (FQPU) - not in the override position
(c)
CWT SCAVENGE PUMP switch (P461 Panel) - OFF position
(d)
RESERVE 2 & 3 XFR switch (P461 Panel) - CLOSED position
(e)
FUEL MAIN 1 & 4 switch (P5 Panel) - CLOSED position
(f)
All fuel removed from the surge tank(s)
S 653-065
(2) Check the pressure refuel system:
(a)
Make sure all of the refuel valve switches are in the closed position.
(b)
Temporarily pressurize the refuel manifold.
(c)
Monitor the fuel flow meter on the fuel servicing equipment.
(d)
Make sure the fuel flow meter does not increase (applicable to all fuel tanks).
(e)
Release the deadman switch to stop the check.
S 653-066
(3) If the fuel quantity increased, do these steps:
(a) Stop the pressure refuel operation.
NOTE: There is a cracked refuel manifold, a refuel valve or
____ vent float valve stuck in the open position. If you continue with the pressure refuel operation, a fuel spill can occur.
(b)
Record which tank fuel quantity increased.
(c)
Use the overwing refuel system to continue to refuel the tanks (AMM 12-11-04/301).
(d)
Repair the refuel system before you use the pressure refuel system.
S 653-067
(4) If the fuel quantity did not increase, then continue.
G. Begin the Refuel Operation Again
S 653-068
(1) Make sure the airplane is in this configuration:
(a)
FUEL OVERFILL CONTROL, 415M14, Circuit breaker - closed
(b)
Fuel quantity indicators do not flash (VTO switch not in the override position)

TASK 12-11-06-603-090
6. Refuel Operation - Early Fuel Quantity Shutoff
______________________________________________
A. General
(1)
This task refuels a fuel tank when the desired fuel quantity is less than expected (early shutoff).
(2)
The fuel quantity indication system is a fault tolerant system. When the system detects an error that exceeds the maximum allowable fuel quantity measurement error, the system will blank the fuel quantity for that tank. Other less severe FQIS fault conditions can cause the refuel valves to close before the fuel tank reaches the volumetric top-off (VTO) fuel quantity. This early shutoff is necessary to prevent an overfill condition in the tank due to possible fuel quantity gaging errors. There are two early shutoff set values:
