3. Drain the Surge Tank With the Surge Tank Drain Fixture (G28015) (Fig. 302)_______________________________________________________________
A. General
(1) Use this procedure to drain a surge tank if it has a large quantity of fuel in it. The surge drain fitting can drain the fuel from the surge tank at approximately 25 gallons per minute.
B. Equipment
(1)
G28015 - Surge Tank Drain Fitting
(2)
Container - 100 U.S. gallons (maximum), suitable for fuel servicing
(3)
Fuel Drain Hose - 2 inch diameter - suitable for use with fuel (can be made locally)
(4)
Hose clamp - 2 inch diameter - (can be made locally)

Location Zones 555 Surge Tank, Front Spar to Rear Spar, Left 655 Surge Tank, Front Spar to Rear Spar, Right
(2)
Access Panels 556AB Surge Tank Access Door (Pressure Relief Valve - Left) 656AB Surge Tank Access Door (Pressure Relief Valve - Right)
D. Procedure

(1) Install the surge tank drain fitting (G28015) on the inboard surge tank access door, 556AB or 656AB.
(a)
Remove four of the eight screws that attach the pressure relief valve to the surge tank access door.
(b)
Install and tighten the drain fitting.

(2)
Attach a 2-inch fuel drain hose and clamp to the surge tank drain fitting.

(3)
Put the other end of the drain hose in an applicable fuel storage tank or cart.

E. Put the Airplane Back to the Usual Condition

After the fuel is removed from the surge tank, remove the surge tank drain fitting and install the four screws that were removed.
