A. This procedure contains:
(1) The task to download data from the FDR with the Portable Interface (PI) Unit.

A. General
(1) This task uses the hand-held Portable Interface (PI) unit to make a copy of the data from the flight data recorder (FDR) while the FDR is in the airplane.
(a)
The PI puts the data on a removable PC card (PCMCIA).
(b)
The data on the PC card can then be analyzed by the applicable airline personnel.

(3) S 862-224Remove the end cap from the bottom of the portable interface (PI) unit and install the PC card into the slot.
(4) S 012-225Open the access panel for the aft equipment center in the overhead crew rest compartment near door 5 to get access to the FDR.
(5) S 862-226Open the connector cover on the front of the FDR to get access to the ground support equipment (GSE) connector.
(6) S 862-227Use the cable to connect the PI to the GSE connector.

WARNING: PREPARE THE SAFETY-SENSITIVE SYSTEMS FOR THE AIR MODE BEFORE
_______ YOU OPEN THE AIR/GROUND CIRCUIT BREAKER. IN THE AIR MODE, MANY OF THE AIRPLANE SYSTEMS CAN OPERATE AND CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

(a) On the P7, panel: 1) 7H8, GND SAFETY RELAY

Make these selections on the PI (use the arrow switches to move the cursor to theselection and then push the SELECT switch):
NOTE: The arrow switches move the cursor; the SELECT switch makes a
____ selection; the DELETE switch goes back one selection; the HOME/MENU switch causes the FDR main menu to show.
