MAINTENANCE MANUAL
E. The front panel of DFDAC contains a red LED labeled "CARD FAULT", a yellow LED labeled "INTERFACE FAULT", and a pair of monitor-jacks. A red LED illuminates if DFDAC is faulty. A yellow LED illuminates if the DFDAC interfacing digital data bus fails. The monitor-jacks are used to monitor ARINC 429 data bus output.
3. Digital Flight Data Recorder
____________________________
A. The FDR is installed in the aft equipment center E8. It records the DFDAC output data stream in solid-state flash memory. In addition to the circuits and mechanisms necessary for recording, the DFDR contains status monitor circuits which provide fault signals to the DFDAC in the event of recorder failure.
B. The FDR processes the incoming data as follows:
(1)
A differential receiver converts the bi-phase digital data from the DFDAC to a single-ended signal for processing. The converted signal is also routed to a differential transmitter which converts the signal back to bi-phase format and sends it to the DFDAC as playback.
(2)
The single-ended signal is applied the compression/store data acquisition processor (CSDAP). The CSDAP provides the following functions:
(a)
Timing for all FDR circuits.
(b)
Interface to the ground support system.
(c)
Interface to the protected solid-state flash memory.
(d)
Built in test functions.
(3)
The CSDAP is controlled by software which performs the compression of the data, monitoring of hardware and software integrity, and interface control. The software will change the way it formats flight data in response to the airplane configuration. Configuration information can be changed via the ground support system.
(4)
The CSDAP sends addresses and data in serial form to the flash store interface card which converts the data to parallel and performs the write operations to the correct address in solid-state memory. The flash store interface card also reads data from solid-state memory and sends it serially to the CSDAP for extraction by ground support equipment.
