General
_______
A. This chapter covers the independent instruments and instrument systems of the 747-400 airplane. Instrument panels are provided for the flight crew, flight attendants, cargo handling personnel, and ground crew. The instrument systems consist of electronic clocks, a flight data recorder system, an aircraft condition monitoring system, a weight and balance system, an aural warning system, and an integrated display system.
Electrical/Electronic Panels (FIM 31-01-00)
____________________________
A. The Electrical/Electronic Instrument panels identified are those that have three or more relays that belong to two or more unrelated systems. The panels may also have other components mounted in them such as transformers, switches, diodes, circuit breakers or modules.
Instrument Panels

A. The instrument panels are arranged in groups consistent with the prime user of the panels. The location of the panels in the flight compartment area is shown in figure 1. The instrument panels are described in AMM 31-10-00/001.
Independent Instruments

A. The clocks (electronic) provide the primary time reference for the
flight crew. The clocks are described in AMM 31-25-00/001.Recorders
_________
A. A flight data recorder system (AMM 31-31-00/001) maintains a record of significant airplane flight parameters which are recorded in digital form on magnetic tape.
B. The aircraft condition monitoring system (ACMS) collects and records an airplane's operational data to permit detailed analysis of performance and maintenance requirements. ACMS records operational data of engine condition, auxiliary power unit condition, and the environmental control system condition. This data is gathered by the data management unit and sent to a digitial ACMS recorder. The aircraft condition monitoring system is described in AMM 31-35-00/001.

A. The weight and balance system (AMM 31-41-00/001) provides on-board aircraft weighing and a determination of the center of gravity point. This system allows the airplane load to be maximized while providing greater safety for takeoff and flight conditions.

7. Central Warning Systems
_______________________
A. The Modularized Avionics Warning Electronics Assembly (MAWEA) is a card file containing cards that generate signals for four different warning systems (AMM 31-51-00/001).
B. The aural warning system alerts the flight crew of abnormal takeoff and landing conditions, abnormal airspeed indications, autopilot disconnect, altitude alert, a detected fire condition, calls from attendants, and selective calls received over the communications system. The aural warning system is described in AMM 31-52-00/001.
