(2) S 584-012Lift the nose landing gear axle on a jack to make sure all the weight is off the nose landing gear (AMM 07-11-03/201).
(3) S 014-013Remove the end caps from the axle (if they are installed). (a) Keep the cross bolts.
(4) S 164-014Clean the inner diameter of the axle: (a) Thoroughly clean grease or other contamination from the inside of the axle. (b) Remove all the finish from the inner diameter of the axle. (c) Clean the area between 13 and 17 inches in from the end of the axle. (d) Make sure that the areas between the 11 and the 1 o'clock and the 5 and 7 o'clock positions are very clean.
(5) S 164-062Clean the new in-axle mount rings:
NOTE:____ Go to next step if mount rings are being reused.
(a) Remove grease, corrosion, or dirt from the unpainted surfaces.
CAUTION:_______ DO NOT USE METAL TOOLS OR ABRASIVE MATERIALS TO CLEAN THE FRICTION PADS. THE FRICTION PADS ARE EASILY DAMAGED.
(b) (c) Remove the pink protective coating from the friction pads (1, Fig. 402).Clean the surfaces of the friction pads with freon and a cotton swab.
(6) S 424-069Install new friction pads on reused mounting rings: (a) Clean friction pad mounting areas on mount ring.

Install friction pads using new flat head screws.

Apply a layer of BMS 10-20H, Type II, Class A primer to screw heads.

Push the sensor cables back into the axle, out of the way.

Put the in-axle mount rings on the installation tool (Fig. 403):
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE WORMSHAFT AFTER THE PEG TOUCHES THE STOP.

TOO MUCH FORCE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
