Prepare for Installation (Fig. 402)

(1)
Assemble the lubrication insert of the apex pin for installation.
(a)
Do a check of the O-rings (14) on the lubrication insert (15) for worn areas or damage and replace if it is necessary.
(b)
Apply a coat of grease on the O-rings (14), the lubrication insert (15), and the interior surface of the apex pin (17).
(c)
Install the lubrication insert (15) with the O-rings (14) in the apex pin (17) to make the apex pin assembly.

(2)
Assemble the lubrication inserts of the actuator attachment bolt for installation.
(a)
Do a check of the O-rings (11, and 12) on the lubrication inserts (10) for worn areas or damage and replace if it is necessary.
(b)
Apply a coat of grease on the O-rings (11, and 12), the lubrication inserts (10), and the inner surface of the bolts (13).
(c)
Install the lubrication inserts (10) with the O-rings (11, and 12) in the bolt (13) to make the actuator attachment assembly.

(3) Lubricate the O-rings, the backup rings, and the hydraulic adapters with lubricant.

Install the hydraulic adapters with the new O-rings and the backup rings in the ports of the actuators.

Retract the actuator, fill it with hydraulic fluid and seal the ports with caps.

Steering Actuator and Yoke Assembly Installation

(1) Install the yoke assembly of the steering actuators (Fig. 402).
CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE YOKE CORRECTLY. THE YOKE IS NOT SYMMETRICAL AROUND THE CENTERLINE. AN INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE AN INCORRECT STEERING RADIUS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(a)
Align the yoke (43) with the mounting holes of the shock strut (until the grease fittings point up on the left hand gear installation, and down on the right main gear installations).
(b)
Hold the yoke , and install the pin (16), the splined washer (42) and the nut (40).
(c)
Tighten the nut (40) 80 to 100 pound-feet.
(d)
Loosen the nut and tighten it with your hand to the nearest castellation.
(e)
Install the lockbolt (41), the washer (39), and the nut (38).
(f)
Apply tamper proof putty to nut (38) until some movement of the nut can cause the seal to break.

Install the steering actuators (Fig. 402).
(a)
Hold the actuators (31, and 32) and align the head end of each actuator with the related lug on the yoke (43).
