 C.  A defective microphone can cause no voice sound or can cause defective call priority. Use a different microphone at the same position. If the second microphone operates correctly, then the first microphone is defective. If speaker sound can be heard with a pilot announcement, then the microphone is good. If an attendant makes an announcement and no sound can be heard, then that microphone is bad.
 D.  A faulty handset may be isolated by interchanging it with another handset. If audio is available to the speakers when a pilot makes an announcement but not when an attendant makes an announcement, then probably the attendant's PA handset or handheld microphone is faulty.
 E.  A similar comparison can be made between the pilots' PA handset or handheld microphone and the microphones of the flight interphone system. If an announcement can be made using a flight interphone system handheld microphone, but not with the pilots' PA handset or handheld microphone, then the PA handset or handheld microphone is faulty.
 F.  A check for a defective tape reproducer is easy. Voice announcements can be heard on the speaker system. Music can not be heard on the speaker system. The tape reproducer can be bad. Make sure that music tapes are installed in the tape reproducer. If the tapes are installed, then replace the tape reproducer.
 G.  Defective speakers can be found with no problem. Compare any two speakers that are next to each other. The sound level must be the same. If no sound can be heard on one speaker, that speaker is bad.
 H.  Defective chimes, no call priority, or incorrect call priority can be a problem with the passenger address amplifier. The circuits are part of the passenger address amplifier. Make sure the Passenger Signs System (Ref 33-24-00) operates correctly. Make sure that the Call System for the Flight/Ground Crew (Ref 23-43-00) operates correctly. Make sure the Passenger Call System (Ref 33-25-03) operates correctly. If the systems operate correctly, then replace the passenger address amplifier.

 2.  Troubleshooting Charts

 A.  The troubleshooting procedures in the charts are from the performance of the system operation test. The procedures are in a tree-type shape to help isolate the problem quickly.
 B.  For a failure of a test step, find the box that has the problem. Do the step in the box. Follow one line to the next box. Make an analysis of each test step until the best correct procedure is found. Do the specified correct procedure. Do the same step where the problem first occurred. Complete the test to make sure the system operates correctly.
 C.  The procedures in the charts use the fact that the wiring is O.K. Make sure that electrical power is available. If the correct procedure does not correct the problem, then use the wiring diagrams to examine the wiring/connections.
 3.  Prepare for Troubleshooting

 A.  Procedure
 (1)  
Supply electrical power to the airplane.

 (2)  
Make sure that these circuit breakers on panel P6 are closed:

 (a)  
PASS ADDRESS AMPL BAT

 (b)  
TAPE REPRODUCER DC

 (c)  
PASS ADDRESS TAPE RPDR AC

 (d)  
FLT INPH AMPL

 (e)  
CAPT & OBS INPH

 

 (3)
Make sure that these circuit breakers on panel P18 are closed:

 (a)  
PASS SIGN CONTROL

 (b)  
PASS & CREW CALL

 

 (4)  
Turn on the captain's and the first officer's flight interphone speaker.

 (5)  
Connect a microphone and a headset to the captain's audio selector panel.
