VHF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. The task in this procedure is a test for the VHF communication systems. The test includes a test of the VHF transceiver operation and a test of the VHF system operation.
B. Use only approved test frequencies when you do this test.
C. When you do the VHF communication system test, make sure the airplane is not in or near any large metal structures. VHF communications while the airplane is on the ground can be degraded by airplane orientation or by rf signal attenuation. If the transmitted and received voice is not satisfactory, move the airplane to a better position.

Make sure these circuit breakers are closed:
(a)
P6-1 Circuit Breaker Panel
1) VHF-2
2) ELEX PANEL

P18-2 Circuit Breaker Panel
1) VHF-1
D. VHF Transceiver Operational Test

Connect the headset and the microphone to the VHF transceiver in the main equipment center on electronic equipment rack E2.

Do a test of the VHF transceiver operation:
(a)
Push and hold the SQUELCH DISABLE switch on the transceiver.
1) Make sure you hear the receiver noise increase through the headphones.
(b)
Release the SQUELCH DISABLE switch. 1) Make sure that the noise goes off.

(c) Push and hold the microphone PTT switch. 1) Make sure the TRANSMIT POWER light comes on.
NOTE: The light can flash while the signal changes.

Speak into the microphone. 1) Make sure you hear the sidetone when you speak.
(e)
Release the PTT switch.
E. VHF System Operation Test
S 715-004
(1) Do a test of the No. 1 VHF system operation:
(a)
Push the VHF-1 switch on the audio selector panel for the captain. 1) Make sure the VHF-1 light comes on.
(b)
Do these steps on the VHF-1 control panel: 1) Set the left frequency display to an approved test frequency. 2) Set the right frequency display to a different approved test frequency. 3) Set the TFR (transfer) switch to the left position. a) Make sure the light above the left frequency display is on. b) Make sure the light above the right frequency display is off. 4) Push and hold the COMM TEST switch. a) Make sure you hear the receiver noise increase
