 E.  HF Communication Operational Test
 S 715-026
 WARNING: DO NOT TRANSMIT WITH THE HF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM WHILE THE
_______ AIRPLANE IS REFUELED OR DEFUELED. AN EXPLOSION CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE.
 WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONNEL STAY A MINIMUM OF 6 FEET AWAY FROM THE
_______ VERTICAL STABILIZER WHEN THE HF SYSTEM TRANSMITS. RF ENERGY FROM THE HF COMMUNICATION ANTENNA CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL.
 (1)  Do the operational test for the HF-1 system.
 (a)  
Connect the headphone to the captain's jack panel.

 (b)  
Connect the handheld microphone to the captain's jack panel.

 (c)  
Set the mode switch to the applicable mode (AM or USB/SSB) on the HF-1 (captain's) control panel.

 (d)  
On the captain's audio selector panel (ASP), push and release the HF-1 switch.

 (e)  
On the captain's ASP, set the HF-1 sound control to the middle position.

 (f)  
Set the frequency display on the HF-1 control panel to an approved test frequency.

 (g)  
Turn the RF SENS control clockwise to the near maximum position on the HF-1 control panel.

 CAUTION: SET THE HF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM TO OFF, IF THE HF
_______ TRANSCEIVER BLOWER FAN DOES NOT OPERATE. HEAT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
 (h)  
Make sure the HF-1 transceiver blower operates when you transmit.

 (i)  
Do these steps to speak with the tower radio operator: 1) Push and release a push-to-talk (PTT) switch.

 a)  Make sure you hear a 1-kilohertz sound from the headset.
 NOTE: You hear a 1-kilohertz sound, while the
____ antenna coupler tunes to the test frequency. If you hear a 1-kilohertz sound for more than 10 seconds, the test frequency is possibly out of range for HF communication.

 2) Push and hold the PTT switch while you transmit. a) Make sure the quality of the transmitted and received voice is satisfactory. b) Make sure you hear the sidetone when you transmit.
 3)  Turn the HF-1 sound control slowly counterclockwise on the captain's ASP. a) Make sure the sound of the received voice decreases
 slowly, while you turn the control.
 4)  Turn the HF-1 sound control slowly clockwise on the captain's ASP. a) Make sure the sound of the received voice increases
 slowly, while you turn the control.
 5)  Turn the RF SENS control slowly counterclockwise on the HF-1 control panel. a) Make sure the sound of the received voice decreases
 slowly, while you turn the control.
 6)  Turn the RF SENS control slowly clockwise on the HF-1 control panel. a) Make sure the sound of the received voice increases
 slowly, while you turn the control.
 (j)  
If it is applicable at your location, do a test of the other mode(s) of operation (AM or USB/LSB/SSB). 1) Set the mode switch to AM or USB/LSB/SSB. 2) Set the frequency display to a different approved test

 frequency. 3) Speak with the tower radio operator. a) Make sure the quality of the transmitted and received voice is satisfactory.

 (k)  
Set the mode select switch to the OFF position on the HF-1 communication control panel.

 (l)  
Remove the headphone from the jack panel.

 (m)  
Remove the hand microphone from the jack panel.

 (2)  AIRPLANES WITH THE HF-2 COMMUNICATION SYSTEM INSTALLED; Do these steps to do the operational test for the HF-2 system:
 (a) Connect the headphone to the first officer's jack panel.
