Put the wet towel on the end of the discharger rod.
(d)
Put the megohmmeter connectors on the base and on the wet towel at the end of the rod.
(e)
Measure the resistance. 1) Resistance should be between 6 and 100 Megohms for the trailing edge or tip type dischargers. 2) If the resistance measured is high, make sure the meter
connector and the discharger rod touch the wet towel. 3) Add more water if it is necessary and measure again. 4) Use the lowest measured value.

(4) Put the surface back to a satisfactory condition:
(a) Repair the Flame Spray (SRM 51-70-14), if it is necessary.

STATIC DISCHARGER - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General

A. This procedure has two tasks. The tasks are an inspection and a resistance measurement of the static dischargers. You must do a check of the static dischargers regularly. If you do not examine them, you could get static interference and bad radio operation.

(1) Do a visual check to see that all the dischargers attach correctly to their base:
(a) Make sure there is no lightning damage.
NOTE: This damage will be seen as burned or rough areas on the
____ black conductive surfaces.
(b) You could also find damage as pits on the discharger base.

Do a check for erosion of the discharger tips.

(3)
Do a check for erosion of the discharger surface:
(a)
Leading edge erosion of the dischargers must not extend more than a third the width of the discharger.
(b)
A discharger that shows damage must be replaced.
