HF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains a system test. The two primary procedures in the system test are:
(1)
BITE test for the HF transceiver
(2)
Operational Test for the HF Communication System.
B. Each HF transceiver is installed in the main equipment center on electronic equipment rack E2, E3, or E5 or in the aft cargo compartment on electronic equipment rack E6.
C. Make sure you do the tests with approved test frequencies.
D. When you do the HF communication test, make sure the airplane is not in or near any large metal structures. HF communications while the airplane is on the ground can be degraded by airplane orientation or by rf signal attenuation. If the transmitted and received voice signals are not satisfactory, move the airplane to a better position and rerun the test.

C. Prepare for the System Test

Supply the electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
(2)
Make sure the flight interphone system operates (AMM 23-51-00/501).

D. HF Transceiver BITE Test
S 745-006
(1) Do these steps to do the BITE test for the HF-1 transceiver:
(a) Set the mode select switch to the AM position on the captain's
HF communication control panel on the aft isle stand panel
(P8).
(b) Push and hold the SQL/LAMP TEST switch on the front panel of
the HF-1 transceiver.
ú 1) Make sure these lights come on and stay on:
ú - LRU FAIL
ú - KEY INTERLOCK
ú - CONTROL INPUT FAIL
(c) Release the SQL/LAMP TEST switch.
1) Make sure all the lights on the HF transceiver go off.
NOTE: A continuous light shows a defective condition.____

(2) AIRPLANES WITH HF-2 INSTALLED;
Do these steps to do a BITE test of the HF-2 transceiver:
(a) Set the mode switch to AM on the HF-2 (first officer's) control
panel (P8).
(b) Push and hold the SQL/LAMP TEST switch on the front panel of
the HF-2 transceiver.
ú 1) Make sure these lights come on and stay on:
ú - LRU FAIL
ú - KEY INTERLOCK
ú - CONTROL INPUT FAIL
(c) Release the SQL/LAMP TEST switch.
1) Make sure all the lights on the HF transceiver go off.
NOTE: A continuous light shows a defective condition.____
