(1) Open the applicable circuit breakers that follow and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:

P18 Circuit Breaker Panel:
1) HF-1 AC
2) HF-1 DC
(b)
P6 Circuit Breaker Panel:
1) HF-2 AC (if installed)
2) HF-2 DC

(2) Remove the HF transceiver (AMM 20-10-07/201).

3. HF Transceiver Installation___________________________
A. General
(1) When you do the HF communication system test, make sure the airplane is not in or near any large metal structures. HF communications while the airplane is on the ground can be degraded by airplane orientation or by RF signal attenuation. If the transmitted and received voice is not satisfactory, move the airplane to a better position.

WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONNEL STAY A MINIMUM OF 6 FEET AWAY FROM THE
_______ VERTICAL STABILIZER WHEN THE HF SYSTEM TRANSMITS. RF ENERGY FROM THE HF COMMUNICATION ANTENNA CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL.
(2) Do these steps to prepare for an operational test of the applicable HF communication system (referred to as the HF system):
(a)
Connect the headphone to the captain's jack panel.
(b)
Connect the hand microphone to the captain's jack panel.
(c)
Set the captain's audio selector panel for the applicable HF system.
(d)
Do these steps at the applicable HF control panel:
1) Set the HF communication control panel mode select switch for the correct mode of operation for your location (USB/LSB/SSB or AM).
2) Set the frequency display to an approved test frequency.

(3) Do these steps to do an operational test of the applicable HF system:
(a)
Push and release a push-to-talk (PTT) switch.
(b)
Wait while the HF antenna coupler tunes the HF system to the set frequency.
NOTE: A continuous or pulsed tone indicates that the coupler
____ is tuning to a new frequency. The coupler tune tone will sound no longer than 15 seconds. The average coupler tune tone is approximately 1 to 7 seconds.
(c) Speak with a tower radio operator. 1) Push and hold the PTT switch while you transmit. 2) Make sure the quality of the transmitted and received voice
