 A. Zone Controller The zone controller 8HK controls the temperature of the cockpit, fwd cabin and aft cabin zones. This controller contains two computers, a primary and a secondary. The primary computer gives full control of all of the system parameters. The secondary computer gives a reduced level of control when used as a back-up to the primary computer, (in the event of primary computer failure).
 (1) Trim Air from the Air Conditioning Packs Hot trim air is taken from the bleed air supply to the air conditioning packs 10HM and 11HM downstream of the flow control valves 8HB and 11HB. It flows through the trim-air pressure regulating valve 14HK to the trim-air check valves 18HM and 19HM and to the hot-air pressure switch 26HK. It then flows to the independently controlled trim air valves 11HK for the cockpit, 12HK for the FWD cabin and 13HK for the AFT cabin. It is mixed with cooled conditioned air from the mixer unit and flows to the cabin. It also flows to the cockpit through a restrictor.

 From the trim-air pressure regulating valve 14HK the air also flows to the AFT cargo-compartment heating-system (Ref. 21-43-00).

 Trim Air Valves The trim air valves 11HK, 12HK and 13HK add an adjustable quantity of hot trim air to the cooled conditioned air from the mixer unit. The zone temperature controller 8HK controls the position of the trim air valves. The trim air valves are installed in the respective hot trim-air ducts to the cockpit and the two cabin areas.

 Trim-Air Pressure Regulating Valve The trim-air pressure regulating valve 14HK keeps the pressure in the trim air supplies to 0.280 bar (4.0610 psi) above the cabin pressure. It is installed downstream of the trim-air check valves 18HM (19HM). In normal operation it operates pneumatically. You can use the trim-air pressure regulating valve to shut off the trim air supply.

 Temperature Sensors Temperature sensors send temperature data to the zone temperature controller 8HK:

the temperature sensor 24HK (for cockpit) is installed in the mixer unit,

the temperature sensor 25HK (for cabin) is installed in the mixer unit,

the temperature sensor 15HK is installed in the duct to the
 cockpit,


 -
the temperature sensor 16HK is installed in the duct to the FWD cabin,

 -
the temperature sensor 17HK is installed in the duct to the AFT cabin,

 -
the temperature sensor 21HK is installed in the cockpit,

 -
the temperature sensor 22HK is installed in the FWD zone of the cabin,

 -
the temperature sensor 23HK is installed in the AFT zone of the cabin.

 Temperature Selectors With the temperature selector 27HK you can set the required air temperature in the cockpit. The temperature selector 28HK controls the air temperature in the FWD cabin zone. The temperature selector 29HK controls the air temperature in the AFT cabin zone. You can set any temperature between 18 deg.C (64.40 deg.F) and 30 deg.C (86.00 deg.F). The 12 o'clock position is 24 deg.C (75.20 deg.F). The selectors send a signal to the zone controller 8HK. The selectors are installed on the panel 30VU in the cockpit.

 (6) Hot-Air Pressure Switch The hot-air pressure switch 26HK closes if the pressure in the applicable trim air supply is more than 0.45 bar (6.5266 psi). The microswitch sends a signal to the zone controller 8HK. The signal continues until the hot-air pressure switch opens when the pressure decreases to 0.35 bar (5.0763 psi). It is installed downstream of the trim air pressure regulating valve 14HK.
