Detailed Inspection of the Ram Air Outlet Flap and Check for Excessive Backlash of Outlet Flap
WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT AIR IS NOT SUPPLIED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
_______ FROM THE MAIN ENGINE, THE APU OR A GROUND SOURCE. HOT COMPRESSED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
NOTE : The procedure is the same for the left and the right ram air outlet.

D. Safety Precautions
(1) On the panel 30VU:
(a)
Make sure that the APU BLEED and the ENG BLEED/1(2) pushbutton switches are released.
(b)
Put a warning notice to tell persons not to operate these pushbutton switches.

(2) On the HP ground connector put a warning notice to tell persons not to supply the ground air.
4. Procedure

A. Inspection of the Ram Air Outlet Flap Backlash
(1) At the centre line of the ram-air outlet flap (1) measure and make a note of the dimension "B".
NOTE : This measurement must be made with no load applied.

(2) At the centre line of the ram-air outlet flap (1) measure and make a note of the dimension "A".
NOTE : This measurement must be made with the load applied (hand
____ pressure). Do not apply excessive pressure as this could result in a false measurement.
(3)
Take the dimension "A" away from the dimension "B". The result will indicate the amount of backlash in the ram-air outlet flap-system.
(4)
If the backlash is more than 20 mm (0.7874 in.) then you must replace the ram air outlet (Ref. TASK 21-61-52-000-003) and (Ref. TASK 21-61-52-400-003).

B. Detailed Inspection of the Ram Air Outlet Flap
(Ref. Fig. 601/TASK 21-61-52-991-012)
(1)
Disconnect the electrical connector (2).
(2)
Put blanking caps on the disconnected electrical connectors.
(3)
Hold the air outlet flap (1) and the actuator (3) and remove the nut (7), the bolt (4) and the bush (5).
