Before attempting another start, perform an engine cranking cycle to expel fuel
from the engine. Ensure HP rotation has ceased before engaging starter, and wait
a minimum of three (3) minutes between cancellation of start and engagement of
starter for crank cycle.
05-11-20: Start Valve Failure
FAILURE TO OPEN ON ENGINE START:
1. ENGINE START Circuit Breaker (CB)......................................................CHECK
The ENGINE START CB is located on the Pilot’s Aft Panel, K-6.
2. APU Air / External Air ............................................................ON / CONNECTED
3. BLEED AIR Pressure ................................................CHECK (25 PSI MINIMUM)

The start valve can be manually opened and closed through an access port in the
cowling. See Section 09-03-40: Engine Start - Manual Operation Of Start Valve.
FAILURE TO CLOSE AFTER ENGINE START:
If Start Valve Open (SVO) icon is still illuminated (indicating the start valve has not
closed) by the time ground idle HP RPM is reached, perform the following
procedure.

7. BLEED AIR Switches (Both)..........................................................................OFF
8. APU Air (or External Air)................................................................................OFF
WHEN BLEED AIR STABILIZES AT MINIMUM VALUE (30 PSI):

10. Maintenance..................................NOTIFY PRIOR TO NEXT START ATTEMPT
05-11-30: Start Valve Open (SVO) Indication - In Flight
IF THE SVO ICON IS DISPLAYED ON EICAS IN FLIGHT:
1. Engine Parameters / EVM Levels............................................................CHECK
IF NORMAL:
2. SVO Indication.................................................INVESTIGATE AFTER LANDING
IF ABNORMAL:
3. Affected Engine ...............................................................................SHUT DOWN

05-11-40: Hot Start
IF ENGINE EXCEEDS MAXIMUM START TEMPERATURE (700° C):
1. HP Fuel Cock................................................................................................SHUT
2. Engine .............................MOTOR FOR MAXIMUM OF THIRTY (30) SECONDS
AFTER MOTORING FOR THIRTY (30) SECONDS:
3. START MASTER Switch.................................................................................OFF
PRIOR TO NEXT START ATTEMPT, VERIFY THE FOLLOWING:
4. Fuel Boost Pump..............................................................................................ON
5. Fuel Pressure .........................................................................................NORMAL
6. Air Source / Air Pressure...........................................AVAILABLE / ADEQUATE
7. Wind Direction For Start......................................NOSE DIRECTLY INTO WIND
Move the airplane, if required, to align the nose directly into the wind for starting.
IF SECOND START ATTEMPT PRODUCES HOT START:

05-12-10: Engine Fire
ENG FIRE LOOP ALRT (RED)
An engine fire warning causes the following messages and annunciations:
• Red ENG FIRE LOOP ALRT message displayed on CAS.
• Red FIRE DET LOOP capsule illuminated on Standby Warning Lights Panel (if
installed).
• Three chime aural warning tone sounds.
• Master Warning switchlight capsule illuminated red on pilot’s and copilot’s master
warning/caution panels.
• Red light illuminated in affected engine’s FIRE handle.
• Red light illuminated in affected engine’s HP fuel cock handle.
• Affected engine’s LOOP lights illuminated red on FIRE TEST panel.
The important action for controlling an engine fire is to shut the affected engine down and
