03-01-20: Exterior Preflight Inspection
NOTE:
If any items are missing on preflight inspection, refer to
Configuration Deviation List (CDL) in Gulstream
Aerospace GIV Flight Manual, Appendix B.
LEFT FORWARD FUSELAGE:
1. Wheel Well Doors ........................................................................................OPEN
TO OPEN WHEEL WELL DOORS:
WARNING
ENSURE ALL LANDING GEAR DOORS AND
WHEEL WELLS ARE CLEAR OF PERSONNEL AND
EQUIPMENT WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING
SAFETY PINS.
CAUTION
THE DOOR CONTROL VALVE HANDLE SHOULD
NOT BEALLOWED TO SNAP BACK UNDER SPRING
PRESSURE. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY AFFECT
NORMAL FUNCTIONING OF THE VALVE.
A. Hydraulic Pressure ................................................................DISSIPATED
B. Nose / Main Gear Door Control Valves...........PIN TO OPEN POSITION
To pin nose gear door control valve, open panel on left side of aircraft just
aft of nose gear door. Pull lever down and insert pin. To pin main gear door
control valves, locate valve in each wheel well. Move valve actuating arm
against spring pressure and insert pin to hold valve in open position.
C. External Battery Switch ........................................................................ON
D. Ground Service Valve ...............................................................ACTIVATE
Open panel on right side of aircraft just aft of nose gear door. Locate
ground service valve control handle, actuate it aft and hold. This activates
the auxiliary hydraulic pump (AUX PUMP) which supplies hydraulic
pressure to open landing gear doors.
WHEN ALL WHEEL WELL DOORS ARE OPEN:
E. Ground Service Valve................................................................RELEASE
F. External Battery Switch ......................................................................OFF
2. Oxygen Quantity....................................................CHECKED / DOOR SECURE
Quantity should be 1800 psi, based upon 70°F (21°C) OAT. Minimum pressure is
1500 psi.
3. Forward External Battery Switch / Access Door ......................OFF / SECURE
Airplanes SN 1156 and subs.
4. Pitot Covers ............................................................................................REMOVE
Check that probe cover is removed and that probe tube, and small ports on tube,
are unobstructed. Check pitot probe is free of damage.

Check for holes, cracks and check that all latches are secured.
NOSE WHEEL WELL:
6. Hydraulic Lines .........................................................................................CHECK
Check all hydraulic lines in nose wheel well for security and any evidence of
leakage, and general condition of wheel well area.
7. Nosegear Uplock .........................................................................................OPEN
CAUTION
IF ANY LANDING GEAR UPLOCK IS NOT OPEN,
THAT LANDING GEAR WILL NOT LOCK AFTER
RETRACTION.
WARNING
ENSURE ALL LANDING GEAR DOORS AND
WHEEL WELLS ARE CLEAR OF PERSONNEL AND
EQUIPMENT WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING
SAFETY PINS.
IF NOSEGEAR UPLOCK IS NOT OPEN:
