05-07-70: Bus Fault - AC or DC RESET Light On
The electrical MAIN and ESSENTIAL buses are protected by an automatic bus
protection system. The bus protection system can be activated by a bus fault
(overcurrent), by a logic problem within a Bus Power Control Unit (BPCU), or by a relay
or component failure. Activation of the bus protection system results in illumination of the
AC RESET and/or DC RESET switch light.
A fault on any MAIN BUS will result in that bus being disconnected and isolated from all
power sources; no power source light will be illuminated. A fault on the ESS AC BUS will
cause the AC BPCU to cycle the bus power source from LEFT to RIGHT and then to the
Emergency Inverter (E-INV). Both the E-INV switch light and AC RESET switch light will
illuminate.
A fault on the ESS DC BUS will cause the bus to be switched from LEFT to RIGHT and
then to Batteries (BATT). Both the BATT “ON” switch light and DC RESET switch light will
illuminate. The general procedure to follow in response to illumination of the AC RESET
(or DC) RESET switch light is to observe the relevant AC or DC MAIN or ESSENTIAL
BUS for indications of, or lack of, a power source to those buses, and then press the
illuminated AC RESET (or DC) RESET switch light.
When the RESET light is pushed, one of three events will occur:
• The RESET light will extinguish and remain out.
• The RESET light will extinguish, the relevant BPCU will cycle the bus through its
possible power sources, then the RESET light will again illuminate.
• The RESET light will not extinguish.
See the specific procedures that follow for each of the indicated bus faults:
• Section 05-07-71: Essential DC Bus Fault Indicated
• Section 05-07-72: Essential AC Bus Fault Indicated
• Section 05-07-73: Main AC Bus Fault Indicated
• Section 05-07-74: Main DC Bus Fault Indicated
NOTE:
The MASTER and RESET switches should not be
cycled more than once every ten (10) seconds.
05-07-71: Essential DC Bus Fault Indicated
1. DC RESET Switch Light..............................................................................PUSH
IF LIGHT EXTINGUISHES AND REMAINS OUT, PERFORM STEPS 2 THROUGH 5.
IF LIGHT EXTINGUISHES MOMENTARILY WHILE THE BUS CYCLES THROUGH
ITS POSSIBLE POWER SOURCES, THEN RE-ILLUMINATES, PERFORM STEPS 6
THROUGH 10.
IF LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED, PERFORM STEPS 11 THROUGH 16.
IF LIGHT EXTINGUISHES AND REMAINS OUT:
2. ESS DC BUS AUTO Switch Light .....................................................VERIFY ON
3. Electrical Power.......................VERIFY ON L MAIN DC BUS (SOURCE LIGHT
ILLUMINATED)
4. ESS DC BUS LEFT MAIN Switch Light............................................VERIFY ON
5. Voltage ...............................................MONITOR FOR REMAINDER OF FLIGHT

IF LIGHT EXTINGUISHES MOMENTARILY WHILE THE BUS CYCLES THROUGH
ITS POSSIBLE POWER SOURCES, THEN RE-ILLUMINATES:
6. ESS DC BUS BATT Switch Light ...............................................................PUSH
7. Essential DC Bus Feeder Circuit Breakers (CBs) (Located on PDB).....PULL
(ONE AT A TIME)
8. DC RESET Switch Light.....................PUSH (ONCE, FOR EACH CB PULLED)
CAUTION
PULLONLYONE (1) CBATATIMEAND, IF PROBLEM
CONTINUES, RESET THAT CB BEFORE PULLING
THE NEXT CB.
AFTER FAULT ISOLATION:
9. Applicable Feeder CB ..................................................LEAVE PULLED (OPEN)
10. ESS DC BUS AUTO Switch Light .....................................................VERIFY ON
