FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM
05-13-10: Engine Fire Warning System Malfunction
ENG FIRE LOOP ALRT (RED)
Since engine fire warnings (FIRE handle lights and HP fuel cock lights) are dependent
upon sensing fire/overheat in both loops simultaneously, the possibility exists that a loop
could fail undetected or unannunciated. The possibility also exists that a system fault
could develop which causes a signal output similar to a fire warning, i.e., the FIRE TEST
panel’s LOOP A or LOOP B light illuminated red, but not both illuminated. In cases such
as these, a fire could develop without triggering fire warnings, or false FIRE TEST panel
indications could be presented, again without a fire warning.
The pilot would be alerted to activation of a single fire loop by illumination of the
applicable LOOP light on the FIRE TEST panel, and by display of the red ENG FIRE
LOOP ALRT warning message on CAS, accompanied by the associated three chime
aural warning tone. Should these messages and annunciations occur, re-test the fire
warning system. If the system test is not satisfactory, the loop has failed and the fire
indication is genuine the ENGINE FIRE checklist should be executed. If the system test
is satisfactory, the fire indication is false and the faulty loop should be disabled.
SINGLE FIRE TEST LOOP LIGHT:
1. Illuminated FIRE TEST Switchlight..........................................................PRESS
IF WARNINGS ILLUMINATE, PERFORM STEPS 2 AND 3. IF WARNINGS DO NOT
ILLUMINATE, PERFORM STEPS 4 AND 5.
IF WARNINGS ILLUMINATE:
2. FIRE TEST Switchlight .........................................................................RELEASE
3. Faulty LOOP..DISABLE WITH FAULT SWITCH ON FIRE DETECTION PANEL
IF WARNINGS DO NOT ILLUMINATE:
