BRAKING AS SPEED DECREASES
NOTE:
An increase in landing distance will result if landing
rollout is made with anti-skid completely inoperative.
For landing distances with anti-skid inoperative, see
the LANDING FIELD LENGTH, ANTI-SKID
INOPERATIVE charts in the Performance section of
the GIV Airplane Flight Manual or Operating Manual
Section 13-03-20, Landing Field Length Charts (GIVSP)
and Section 13-03-30, Landing Field Length
Charts (Non-SP GIV). Use of reverse thrust reduces
landing distances given in the AFM/OM.
05-02-30: Anti-Skid Off Braking (Brake-By-Wire) (SN 1000 Through 1213
With ASC 190/266)
Selection of the anti-skid system to off, using the ANTI SKID ON/OFF switch located on
the center pedestal, will be indicated by display of the amber ANTI-SKID FAIL message
on CAS.
With the anti-skid system selected off, normal anti-skid control and open-loop, pulsed
control braking is not available. Applied brake pressure is proportional to brake pedal
deflection.
TAKEOFF:
During takeoff with anti-skid inoperative or selected off, the wheel spindown
function will be disabled. Perform the following steps for takeoff with anti-skid
inoperative or selected off:
1. ANTI SKID ON/OFF Switch ............................................................................OFF
2. Applied Brake Pressure.........................................................DISPLAY ON DU 4
AFTER LIFT-OFF, BEFORE LANDING GEAR RETRACTION:
3. Light Brake Pressure..............................MOMENTARILY APPLY (300-400 PSI)
APPROACH AND LANDING:
The following procedure should be used when braking with anti-skid selected off:
4. ANTI SKID ON/OFF Switch ............................................................................OFF
5. Applied Brake Pressure.........................................................DISPLAY ON DU 4
6. Maximum Reverse Thrust .........................................................................APPLY
7. Brake Application Pressure (Pilot) ..........................APPROXIMATELY 300 PSI
The pilot should smoothly apply brakes to approximately 300 psi, as advised by
the copilot. In an anti-skid inoperative situation, the pilot should devote his
attention to airplane control and the copilot should monitor applied brake pressure

and advise the pilot of corrections needed to maintain 300 psi applied brake
pressure.
CAUTION
IT IS NORMAL FOR DECELERATION TO INCREASE
AS THE STOP PROGRESSES. IT IS EXTREMELY
IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN 300 PSI TO AVOID
LOCKED WHEELSANDBLOWNTIRES.THERE WILL
BE A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN LANDING
DISTANCE WITH ANTI-SKID INOPERATIVE.
NOTE:
Brake pedal position in relation to applied brake
pressure can be observed and practiced airborne with
the anti-skid system selected off and landing gear up
or down.
NOTE:
An increase in landing distance will result if landing
rollout is made with anti-skid inoperative. For landing
distances with anti-skid inoperative, see the LANDING
FIELD LENGTH, ANTI-SKID INOPERATIVE charts in
the Performance section of the GIV Airplane Flight
Manual or Operating Manual Section 13-03-20,
Landing Field Length Charts (GIV-SP) and Section
13-03-30, Landing Field Length Charts (Non-SP GIV).
Use of reverse thrust reduces landing distances given
in the AFM/OM.
05-02-40: Anti-Skid Failure (HMAB)
FOR AIRPLANES SN 1183, AND SN 1214 AND SUBSEQUENT:
ANTI-SKID FAIL (AMBER)
Display of the ANTI-SKID FAIL amber message on CAS indicates a failure has occurred
in the brake system, rendering the anti-skid system inoperative.
There is no automatic reversion to auxiliary braking unless the Combined/Utility
Hydraulic Systems fail.
If the ANTI SKID ON/OFF switch is left selected to ON, there may still be anti-skid
protection on one pair of wheels (inboard or outboard). With the ANTI SKID ON/OFF
switch selected to OFF, all anti-skid protection is disabled.
Braking with the ANTI-SKID FAIL message displayed on CAS should be performed using
the procedures found in Section 05-02-50, Anti-Skid Off Braking (HMAB).
05-02-50: Anti-Skid Off Braking (HMAB)
FOR AIRPLANES SN 1183, AND SN 1214 AND SUBSEQUENT:
With the anti-skid system failed or selected off, full braking performance is not available
and stopping distances are significantly increased. Applied brake pressure must be

carefully controlled to avoid locked wheels and blown tires.
