05-06-60: BTMS OVHT Light On Or BRAKE OVHT Message
ON THE GROUND:
If the OVHT light illuminates on the BTMS display and the amber BRAKE OVHT
message is displayed on CAS during ground operations:
1. Brake(s) Causing OVHT Light.........................................................DETERMINE
• For SPZ-8000 equipped airplanes: Slowly rotate the BTMS selector
switch through each position and check for temperature exceedances
listed as follows.
• For SPZ-8400 equipped airplanes: Simultaneous BTMS display of all
four (4) brakes is available only on the BRAKES system page. Check for
temperature exceedances listed as follows.
TEMPERATURE EXCEEDANCE VALUES:
• Non-ASC 190 / non-ASC 266 airplanes SN 1000 through 1213 with
ASC 167: 400° ±10° C
• ASC 190 / ASC 266 airplanes SN 1000 through 1213 with ASC 346, and
1214 and subsequent: 625° ±25° C

2. Brake(s) Exceeding OVHT Limit...................................................AVOID USING
A. Reverse Thrust...................AS NECESSARY TO ASSIST IN STOPPING
NOTE:
For airplanes SN 1000 through 1143 without ASC
166: Use of thrust reversers is limited to one (1)
minute every thirty (30) minutes.
3. (If Possible) Airplane ......EXPEDITIOUSLY MOVE TO UNCONGESTED AREA
If possible, expeditiously move the airplane to an uncongested area clear of other
aircraft and active taxiways/runways.
4. Parking Brake ..................................................................................DO NOT SET
Chock the nose tires if possible.
5. Brake Temperatures.............................MONITOR FOR TREND INFORMATION
IF TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO RISE OR REMAIN ABOVE THE OVHT
LIMIT FOR MORE THAN FIVE (5) MINUTES:
A. All Personnel......................................EVACUATE AND REMAIN CLEAR
If temperatures continue to rise or remain above the OVHT limit for more
than five (5) minutes, expect the wheel fuse plugs to release. EVACUATE
all personnel and remain clear of the main landing gear for a minimum of
thirty (30) minutes.
CAUTION
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TAKE OFF WITH THE BRAKE
OVHT LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THERE MAY NOT BE
SUFFICIENT BRAKE KINETIC ENERGY AVAILABLE
IN THE EVENT OF A REJECTED TAKEOFF, OR TIRE
FAILURE MAY OCCUR DURING TAKEOFF ROLL.
NOTE:
A visual inspection of the overheated wheels, tires and
brakes should be accomplished prior to the next flight.
IF TEMPERATURES HAVE PEAKED AND THE OVHT LIGHT
EXTINGUISHES:
B. Tires / Brakes ...............INSPECT BEFORE CONTINUING DEPARTURE
The tires should be inspected for proper inflation and the brakes inspected
for damage before continuing the departure.
NOTE:
The flight crew should consider brake energy
requirements for subsequent departures with elevated
brake temperatures. See GIV Airplane Flight Manual
Appendix C: Brake Kinetic Energy (BKE) and Carbon
Brake Cooling.
IN FLIGHT:
6. Altitude.............................20,000 FT OR BELOW (DESCEND IF NECESSARY)

NOTE:
Landing gear should remain extended for a minimum
of ten (10) minutes after the BTMS OVHT light is
