A month-long visit with
distant relatives began on
a joyous note for a Troy
couple but ended with both
traumatized by an incident
that took place on the fi nal
day of their trip.
Kenneth and Martha
McDonald will never forget
what happened on Thursday
of last week when the
Airbus 319 they were on
plunged towards the Rocky
Mountains between British
Columbia and Alberta.
The couple left Inverness
County in early December to
catch the graduation from the
RCMP Academy in Regina
of their granddaughter,
Kendra Martin, the daughter
of Bob and Lynn Martin of
Port Hawkesbury.
After the graduation they
continued on to Victoria, BC
to spend Christmas and New
Years with Martha’s sister,
Georgie Martin.
At 6:20 a.m. on
Thursday, January 10th they
boarded Air Canada 190 for
the fl ight from Victoria to
Toronto.
Martha said everything
was going well. They
were 20 minutes into the
fl ight, the fl ight attendants
were serving beverages,
and everyone was feeling
relaxed for the long fl ight
back east.
“All of a sudden the
plane took quite a jolt,” she
said. “We had our seatbelts
on so we weren’t hurt.”
The plane dropped about
a thousand feet, veered right
and then left, again to the
